I know for me it has been my life long goal to become a nurse. Something that I have always wanted to do with my life ever since I was a child.

Well my decision was clear cut for me. I have always excelled in art, math, and science, but never really knew what I wanted to do with my life. In my early 20-s I became friends with a local tattoo artist and he offered to teach me, so I accepted. A few years passed and I was making really good money as a tattoo artist/body piercer. In 2008 I had my first son. I had a normal pregnancy and delivery, and I was overjoyed by the new love in my life. In 2009 I got pregnant with my second son. Everything was going great until one night, during my 22nd week of pregnancy my water broke and I was rushed to the hospital. The doctors were able to stop me from going into labor but I was put on strict bed rest in the hospital until I delivered. I was there for 7 weeks and it was the most miserable time of my life. I was affraid I would lose my baby. My family and friends were very supportive of me while I was hospitalized. On March 26 I delivered my 2nd son at 29weeks gestation and only weighing 2lbs 13oz. My son was born relatively healthy just tiny. He had to stay in the hospital until he reached a certain weight. He was in there for 6 weeks, and I was there with him each and everyday. He was in the NICU along with alot of other babies. The nurses and I bonded, and I learned alot from them. The stories about the babies, and how much they made a difference in these children's lives. Some of the babies had visitors everyday, while some didnt have any visitors at all. At that point I knew I wanted to become a nurse. I want to take care of the babies. I want to give them the love and attention they need survive. I have a healthy 5yo who just graduated preschool and I attribute his success to his nurses during in first weeks of life. And in Sept. I will officially graduate from an LPN, my first step into me nursing career í ½í¸Š

Specializes in LTC, Med Surg, Renal Care.

I knew that my goal in life was to become a nurse when I volunteered at a LTC facility many moons ago. I've been trying for years to get my entrance scores up. It wasn't meant to be at that time. My program starts July 6, and I'm ready to get this show on the road.

I'm so excited my chance is finally here. Failure is not an option for me when this program begins. I'm going to eat, sleep and breathe this material lol

Than you for this post, and I read your response on another post, we have similar backgrounds. My mom was a drug addict all of my minor life and my father passed when I was young so she had to take care of me and my 6 siblings on her own. But our courage and perseverance is what will lead us too successful careers as nurses, we got this

Well I didnt realize that I wanted to become a nurse until I was in high school. My first semester in college I didnt do so well. I freaked out and immediate changed my major. Now my senior year in college I went ahead and applied for two nursing programs and thankfully received acceptance letters to both.
