ATI says that guarding is an abnormal finding after a colonoscopy that could indicate a bowel perforation & should be reported immediately. So, is this "guarding" more extreme that you would expect a post-op patient to be? I would expect a post-op patient to be protective of their surgical area, so I want to know how to spot the "abnormal" finding.

I was doing some ATI nclex practice questions and need a little more clarification on this one.

    Thanks!!

  4. Colonoscopy isn't an invasive surgical procedure but exploratory procedure. With the guarding think of it as if when you go in their room
They guard their abd area the whole time or have an expression of pain on their face while doing it.
