So... I failed. But I am ready to fight further

Well, That's funny, but i failed. Computer stopped on 85 questions, 85-95 grades in school, tones of studying before exam... I can tell the thing - there is something strong in ourself. Actually I am from another country and I have got there my master's in Math and computer programming (don't be scared :rotfl: ) but what I got from my experience - the only way to get your knowledge - study by youself. I was always studying by myself even skipping the lectures - so finaly I knew even more then some of my professors... Don't pay too much attention on your school grades - I am sure it's just fake for making money. Being a good student in school and licensed person after graduation are two different things. So for everybody who failed - don't give up; for everybody who is still student - pass your test but please read a lot by youself. I wouldn't like everybody to repeat my mistake.

Do you know you failed or just think you failed? Most times when it stops at 85 it means you passed.

I will defenetely pass this exam. Thak you for the support. I must be fave to be sorry a bit about my emotions, but i guess it's much better to talk between people who can understand you :rolleyes:

Either way - sounds like you'll keep your positive view, thank goodness. I've heard various things that happened to others when writing an exam - but, even when one failed her exam, she still succeeded in her program - her teachers understood and knew what a good student she was.

Yes. Keep on going; you can take it again, can't you. And ditto what the other post said about maybe you DID pass, because I've heard many people say the computer turns off at 85 for people who pass. I haven't even finished the program yet, just started in late August, hope to finish the beginning of August 2005. Your advice about studying alone is fitting for my own personal learning style. I go to a study group, but mostly for the social aspect. Sometimes the other members in the group throw me off, information wise. However some people are better at group learning than I am. In order to attend a study group, you do have to prepare, which means reading at home, alone. If anything, study groups scare me in to reading more on my own. By the way, which country are you from, Jascraft?

Guys. It's hard to finf enough words (maybe because of my english :) ) for explaining my feelings about your support and atmosphere on this forum at all. But thanks for everybody. Anything I know I will happy to share with everybody. I am sure nursing is much more different with any ocupation in the world and we need places like this one, the places where we can find our own big professional family.

Thanks for your good words. What is interesting I am going to get Illinois license. So probably we will work together sometimes.

And here is my advice: It's not bad to join to the studying groop, but sometimes it can become the waste of time. (At least it was in my case). You never know the level of understanding the subject of everybody. Try to understand everything at first. Try to get deep into the ideas, physiology and ethiology of disease, then try to imagine the possible ways of trating the patient and idea of getting risk from adverse effects of meds or condition.... Try to play a doctor (even on our level) with your abstract patient. It was my big mistake when I studied this stupid questions for the school tests and didn't use my own imagination about every disease. Plus meds... I have an idea about making something like helping system for the students about how to study. So feel free to ask me any questions.

It is fantastic that you have come so far in your studies, Jascraft. I am going to apply that advice of yours. Yes, many times TOO much concern with spitting back memorized information gets in the way of THINKING, about the big picture. Like I noticed when I try to push in too much information in too short a time, my short term memory rebels and starts mixing things up, forgetting, and the information gets lost. These will be life and death situations. This may sound elementary, but the main things so far that have sunk in with me are:

1. Not killing the patient with some stupid thoughtless move (like the wrong bed position, call light nearby, not falling....)

2. Standard precautions

3. Distracting the patient from his/her discomfort by making them feel relaxed and smiling

.

Vital signs etc.
