Order of Pre-reqs...need advice

  1. Hi all:

I've been an LVN/LPN for two years, work full time in an ER/Trauma center and have been working on pre-reqs since getting my license. The coomunity college I attend has 5 pre-reqs (all science classes) that have to be completed and grades posted on your transcript before they even allow you to apply, as well as the standard Psychology, Sociology, and other non-science classes. I finished all of the non-science classes and am finishing the 2nd of the 5 science classes when this semester ends.

Question: I can take Microbiology next semester or Anatomy. Memorization is not my thing (I learned that during my first attempt at Anatomy during summer school...boy, was that a dumb move on my part...Anatomy in 8 weeks! :smackingf ). What would you recommend?

I LOVED A&P but would NOT recommend taking it over the summer or a short course. Just too much. I took Anatomy in class and micro online (I had to go to one all day lab on a Saturday). Maybe this would work for you?

At my school Anatomy and Physiology are seperate. A full semester for each. Some people take those at the same time, and the teacher jokes it is suicide. (Imagine taking A&P 1 and A&P2 at the same time...) Many recomend taking anatomy with micro. Not much memorization for micro like there is in anatomy. That is not the way I did it though. I took physio by itself (well, with non science courses that is) I took Mircro with Organic, Inorganic and Biochem. They are some what related, expecially the Biochemistry part.

I would definately take Micro first.
A&P will be important for everything later, Micro isn't as important, and if you take A&P now, you might forget a few things, best to do it right before you start nursing program, so that it's fresh in your mind.

Thanks everyone! I figured it might be a good idea to take microbiology this year and take anatomy next fall and physiology next spring. Once I do go in to the nursing program, I'll be in as a second year student and can finish in two semesters (since the LVN counts as first year).

    Any other suggestions?
