Has anyone graduated from mildred elley's practical nursing program or knows if this is a good school?

Hi Ruthie- I was wondering how things are going in the school? Hows the program? I didn't go to the info session and decided to start a CNA class. I'm still interested in this school(highly) due to convience on location. Can you give me some insight. Should I go for it or look around? Do you really have to go to Albany? Tuition is reall that high? Thanks..

sorry i just realize i barely answered your questions, no you do not have to go to albany, because now they are accreditated, i also have a CNA certification but it cannot be compared to lpn. but if you think its the best way to go for you now well do what you have to do. i think you should go for it, especially now that they are making it harder to get in, the longer you wait , the smaller the chances of getting in are. tuition is extremely high, but books are included in it and you get loans, grants and financial aid and sholarship(which i did). even if you have a balance get a sencond job, do anything you can pay monthly or every semester which is every 3 to 4 months. the location is great, any train to bowling green, or wall street. and especially the day schedule is the best. if you have to get a part-time job do so, if you have to quit your job, do so, do anything you can to make sure to pass every test and success. the school is pretty unorganized because they just open the nyc campus, but if you know what you want, you will not even care. the reason im telling you to go for it its because of the location( since most people have to travel to long island or out of state for an rn or lpn program) and this one its right there. and even we get changes classes every two months the teacher still make sure to go over all the materials with you, and you dont feel like you rushing at all. if english is not your first language i suggest take an esl class in the meantime, if you not too familiar with computers, i suggest you take a free class, and for medical termanology, go online and start looking at the words and stuff start preparing yourself now. you eill not regret it.

Be careful, they are not a fully accredited school. Please read their webpage carefull. BE alert!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

they are accredited. the reason why you see this on the website its a because when they first open they used to be an extension site to their albany campus. now they are on their own they are not an extension anymore. they just got accepted a few months ago by the nursing board. And they already file an application for a RN program also, and it will be offer to prevouis lpn students who went to the school first.

Hi I am also interested in the program. However whats this about traveling to Albany? Why? Also how long is the program if you have about 22 college credits that was toward nursing? And can someone please tell me how was the test? I justtook a CNET test and didnt do well in the reading comprehension and am a bit worried. At this point, I want to get in a good LPN program that is starting immediately. When does next classes start?

you do not have to travel to Albany anymore, before when they used to be an extension sites to their main albany campus, we had to travel there for one day with the school to take a day class there if you didnt have any college credits to transfer but now that they are accreditated we do not have to do that anymore. the program is 16 months for day and night and 18 month for weekend. i dont know if they change it. the only college credits youn can transfer are english 101 and spychology 101, only if they were taken within 3 years form the start date. i am also planing on transfering a few credits also. but it does not mean you will actually finish earlier. you might spend less time in class but you will graduate at the same time. when i took my test in march, it was pretty easy but long. the reading and writing were the longest. practice COMPASS test online, its the same format and make sure to score high, they are only taking top scores now. and remmeber you migh pass the tess and because TAP ask for a certain percentage to get you might not be eligible to get financial aid, thas why they say score high. i think the next week-end class is in july, and i beleiev they give information sessions everyday. goodluck.

anyone attending mildred elley in manhattan now? how was the orientation? did you receive your books on that day? what are students wearing? regular clothes or scrubs? will be starting in november just want to know how things are going in the school?

I am not attending in NYC but I'm sure they do things the same in all of the schools.

Orientation-They will tell you any missing paperwork you have, you will get your schedule, meet you department chair and get a tour of the school.

Books-Someone from the bookstore will come on the first day and bring you to get your books.

Clothes-Everyone wears normal clothes. You will wear scrubs when you go to clinicals.

Hope that answers your questions. :)

Hi ladies,

I'm new to this forum and planning to attend the school but kinda nervous about it. I already have ALL Science credits, English, etc from Hunter College. I took off from Hunter several years ago. I only have one more semester to graduate from Hunter in Community Health Ed. It's not that simple to find work I guess in this field. I am in conflicts of whether I should readmit to Hunter to complete it or just start at Mildred Elley for LPN, then go back to Comm. Health major at Hunter to finish it. I really want to do nursing, so LPN is a great start. I really need feedback.

I'd like to start at Mildred in the Spring. Thank you soooo very much in advance for your help/responses, ladies.

What is the total cost of their LPN program in Manhattan?

Hi Megan3485,

I've attended the orientation, etc. The program is 16 months (Tuition/12 credits per semester is $5,400. The total cost is about $20,000+. Your tuition can be reduced if you have credits from other schools, degree, work experiences, etc into considerations. Financial aid is also available. Classes schedules are flexible which is just so awesome. They will have RN program next year. If you finish your LPN at their school, you're qualified to continue your RN there also. They don't take students from outside who completed their LPN elsewhere.

Do they take students for fall and spring?

Is there open enrollment or a deadline? How hard or easy is it to get in? I have 21 credits that are 10 yrs old from a college when I was studying to be a RN. Do they accept financial aid? What's the first payment?

Megan3485,

The next semester will start in November. They're accepting 40 students each semester based on their tests scores (highest is 200 points). If you want to start this coming November, you should call the school and attend an orientation session which is still going. You can also schedule for the tests whenever you're ready to take it. You get 2 chances to take the tests. There's no timing so you can spend as much time on your tests as you want.

I'm taking the test this Friday.

Hi Want2BAnurseBadly,

I'm not sure if there's a deadline. The next session starts in November. It's really not difficult to get in. All you need is to score 200 points on your tests (reading, writing, Math). They do accept certain credits, etc. YES, they accept financial aid. As far as payment is concerned, there's a break down. If you want to be a nurse that bad, you have a lot more chances at this school. They're there to help you succeed. Attend one of the orientation and you'll feel so much better. Don't let any obstacle(s) stop you from reaching your goal, go for it.
