I would like know how difficult the LPN program is. I also would like feedback about the LPN program at Dawson Technical Institute in Chicago. I am currently talking my prerequisite so I can enter the LPN program in January 2007. I'm very nervous because I have been out of school. I would greatly appreciate any feedback from graduates of this program and current students. I'm concerned because I am still going to have to work full time and take of my two kids while going to school.

I am entering the LPN Boces program this Fall. What should I expect and should I pre-study Anatomy? What are the best study tips? Look forward to anyone who have been in this situation and could answer my questions. THANKS!:) :studyowl:

Hello,

Dee, My name is dee! I am also from the chicago area. I was thinking about going to Dawson Technical Institute in Chicago. I decided not to go. Instead I am going to a tech school Brown Mackie in Merrillville, IN for lpn. My father-in-law who is also an RN advised me that this school has awful. The teachers a not friendly or helpful. I would advise you not to go! This schools in right near one of the poorest and one of the most run down parts our city. As we all know some of the worst schools are located in the poorest areas. If I end up spending much more for my education then that's fine with me. I just hope you relize this before attending this lpn program.

I think we must all remember that every individual has a different idea of what constitutes a 'difficult program'.

I attended a private LVN program last year. Some students thought it was overwhelmingly difficult, whereas others thought it was relatively easy. My next statement might be construed as 'controversial', but here it is. The immigrant students who were educated in other countries seemed to do very well in the LVN program and thought it was very easy. The students who attended grade school in the United States seemed to struggle more with the LVN program and frequently complained that it was hard. I am a sixth-generation American who has never attended school outside the U.S., so please don't flame me for relaying my observations.

this is a common phenomenon. I have witnessed this myself. I think a lot of it accounts for the drive that people have who come from outside of the US to be successful in a country that relatively speaking has a lot of great opportunities for success. Also, in a lot of other countries, memorization is practiced much more and so with something like nursing in which you must memorize and learn a lot of material, it can come more easily than for a lot of US students where memorization is not as greatly stressed in earlier education. I speak coming from both worlds (us and morocco) and have personally experienced and witnessed both sides of this phenomenon.

I worked full time and went to school at night to earn my lpn hard yes not going to lie anyone who says its "easy" idk where they went to school that is scary... doable absolutely!!! However once you lose motivation to study forget it but you have no worries at all if this is your dream I made mine come true and so can you

Im just really worried about being stressed , i really dont handle stress very well AT ALL :banghead: Any advice anyone ???

Thanks

Hi , do u mind giving me advice about how the instructors teach in the program . Is it very clear to where u have all the information u need , u just have to study it . Or does the instructor not give u much and expect u to just read everything and learn that way ?

Hello! I am currently in the LPN program. It is definitely stressful and time consuming but it's also fun and you are constantly learning a lot of things. If you take the time to study and come prepared to class then you will have no problem being successful. However, if you always study last minute then you will struggle because it's not easy, the course covers a lot of material and it's very specific. The instructors I have are really laid back and give us study guides before a test which help a lot.

If becoming a LPN is really what you want then go for it:) It's a great experience!!! Good luck :)
