  1. We had orientation and the know it all's were in full effect. People would ask reasonable questions and before the guest speakers could answer, they would blurt out the answer. Then they started name dropping all the doctors and nurses they knew at clinical sites. My attitude has always been.. we are In the same class, learning the same stuff. Now shut up and let me learn. I hate the professors who don't silence them and let them go on and on. Although I did have one professor who asked a know it all if he wanted to teach the class. We heard nothing else out of that student. It then became a joyous learning environment.

  2. I have a couple of those in my class too. They suck. They're annoying, but they have the right to be there same as me. But what can I do? I just ignore them. Someone on this forum told me to make like a turtle and just do my work and ignore everyone. That's what I'm doing. I have a bigger problem on my hands.... Super (Student) Nurse with Rose-Colored Lens.... even worse. She's Miss Super Positive. We're in LVN. And she acts like she's already a Nurse Practitioner. ugh.
  3. There was a MAJOR know it all in my EMT program (funnily enough, she was one of the youngest students in the class and didn't know JACK). She was also a total motormouth. One day, I cured the problem.. I leaned over and said, "Hey, we're listening to [instructor's name] now, NOT YOU."

    Worked like a charm.

  4. An old saying --- empty barrels make the most noise.

Also, did anyone notice that if HE made one point more than the highest in the class, that would have made HIM the highest score. I guess he was to busy blowing his own horn to make the connect.

There's always one in every group!!!

But I took a class one time where the instructor always gave extra points one way or another. So the super A students would end up with scores of 104 or 106 instead of just plain old perfect 100%.
  6. Cali - you're right. I used to teach in a little business school and I would give a couple extra single point questions in the medical term class. But the kids could only max out to 100 points.
  7. We have a bunch of story tellers in our class..but they dont annoy me. They are genuine. I like the people in our class. Granted, its only been two weeks!! Ill have to update when its been a few months.
  8. HMMM... On the other end; did you ever think that the "know it alls" happen to spend hours studying or have been doing things for a long time? Perhaps they have degrees in a related field. You would be suprised how much a PCT; EMT; PARAMEDIC or CNA knows. Especially if they've been doing it a long time.

I do not like people in my class with poor attitudes. I am currently dealing with this ALOT since i've switched to the day program. In my night LVN program I had alot of others who were similiar to me, actively participated and worked in the medical field for years. Now that I am on days I have alot of younger persons, with sh*t poor attitudes and get mad when I answer a question they do not know the answer to. HMM.. I was in a BSN program for almost 4 semesters and dropped out due to financial reasons in 2009. So I am starting from LVN bc its AFFORDABLE. So, yes I DO know ALOT of whats going on! Not to mention I STUDY MY A$$ OFF!

well said. especially this line "I do not like people in my class with poor attitudes". its the attitude and how the person says the story or comment. if its a snotty attitude or story for attention, the class is not really interested. I studied for class too; I was the 'nerd' of my group because I studied. Don't give me the evil eye because I answer question or got a good grade on my test

My program has 2 options for theory classes-Trad and ATOP (weekend program). My first level I took ATOP theory classes and enjoyed them much more than trad classes my second year. simple reason too: the weekend class was a different crowd. the 2 groups are probably comparable to the day and night classes you mentioned. second level had to take trad classes because of scheduling and it was a big difference. I probably fall into the age group of the 'day' classes but I have no patience to hear about your partying on the weekend, your gf/bf dramas etc. I am here to learn and study, not be in a gossip hall.

my previous comment on this thread I mentioned an genius EMT. I'll ask him to explain something faster than any of my prof's sometimes because he'll explain it better. but i've also had a PCA tell me that BPH stands for "blood pressure high". talk to me like I a real person and i can respect you no matter your credentials. talk down to me because of said credentials and you think you are greater, I will treat you the same way I treat my 5 year old sister when she tells me the grass is purple.
