How long are your clinicals?

I attend clinicals eow 645-1500. I personally think that for basic nursing 8 hrs is too long. I have 1 pt to care for so I have a lot of down time. I think for basic nursing 4-6 hours is enough.

7am- 1pm, sometimes we get out earlier than that, but my clinicals this mod were 3-6, 3-9, 1-4

6:50-1:15. I also felt like that was too long. And we also don't get a lunch with that. :(

They let us go at 1:15 because in school the hours are 7-1:45. So they said go to lunch AFTER clinical.

The time may fly now since we're gonna be passing meds and such. I haven't started clinical yet for my second semester. But the first semester with only one patient, dragged.

Try 0600-1800 Saturday and Sunday every other weekend! I don't start until next month but I'm preparing my mind now!

My clinical rotations started as early as 0545 or as late as 0800...most started at 0600 and lasted until at lest two. ALL of my maternity/peds rotations started at 0545 and went until 1700. Those days were rough.

0640-1440 is our clinical time. I agree it is too much time. Most often I ask the nurses or PCA's if there is anything they need help with. Even one of my instructors said we have too many clinical hours that aren't needed!

06:30-15:30 I have no idea if it will be a long day, we don't start clinicals for a few weeks. I'm used to working 12s so it seems like a short day to me.

Just because you only have one patient doesn't mean you have to sit around doing nothing. You can help the nurses and CNAs, answer bells, spend a little time chatting with your patient and reading their chart. You can also find work to do like stocking carts etc.Ask the staff what you can do to help. An extra set of hands always comes in handy on any floor.

Mine used to be 1400-2200 when I was in McFatter. In BC it's gonna be 0600-1800. :/ I think I got you guys beat.

Wow. That's short. Ours were 6a-6p, every single one, with the exception of peds, that was 12p-12a and preceptorship I was 10a-10p. The rare occasion we would leave by 4 during one term, but that's because one professor lived so far and during the winter her roads home were often closed, so if she heard of snow coming we would leave. (This only happened 2 or 3 times)

We also had an hour post clinical. We were mandated to have 1-2 patients and if you we're comfortable more. To stay busy I always made it a point after the first term to take on the whole load- what better time to learn than when I had a safety net, right?

Posting from my phone, ease forgive my fat thumbs! :)

How is 0600-1800 short? It's 6a to 6p in military time.

Seeing as I put in my time in the military and I know how to tell time in my sleep, perhaps I wasn't talking to you? Perhaps all the previous posters who did 8 hours days is what I was referring to?
