How is the first semester in the LPN program?

  1. I am so nervous I start on March 5th , and I am being exempt from certain classes like Anatomy and physiology and Human development, plus Nutrition, so that leaves me with Fundamentals to nursing theory and lab and Vocational adjustments and Dosage and drug calculations.

Can anyone let me know how these classes will be....I start my clinicals on the second semester.

Hi I started my LPN program last week, I was so nervous. Now I know what's expected from me (lots of studying and less free time) but it's not more then I can handle so far. Because of the MLK holiday :spin: , I haven't had my first Pharm class yet. I feel so motivated right now I actually want to study. I just hope I stay motivated. I still get nervous at the thought of clinicals though, those start in late April. But I'll be okay. Everyday I pray. But anyways, I wish you the best. You'll be fine.

i guess what i'm most nervous about are the clinicals because i've never even been in healthcare before. also, i am giving up my job of 19 years to go to school and that makes me nervous as well. as far as the uniforms, i don't have a clue because i was called for class at the last minute and they had orientation way back in december. i have tried to reach my instructor and keep getting her voicemail and no call back! i do hope there is a good reason for that

If you dont start class until the 29th, she most likely is not "in school" yet either. As a finishing LPN student (only 14 weeks left), I have some advice. Show up for clinicals, show up clean, neat, prepared and act calm. Be like a duck floating on water. From the top it looks effortless, but underneath his little feet are moving as fast as possible.
Just make sure to have everything with you. Before you start classes make a "to have with me list". Put everything on it, so until it becomes routine, you can pack your bags or pockets just right. Good luck

[font=book antiqua]i am wondering how my classmates will be. my first class will be anatomy and physiology and human development, but im exempt from those classes. i will be def taking calculations and dosage and fundamentals of nursing. for this semester i will be just taking 2, and the rest of my classmates will be taking the other classes mentioned. so i hope it goes good due to the amount of classes i will be taking which are 2 less ones. in june i start the clinicals, im so nervous, i hope i will meet friendly people who i can consider to study with.

    Hi Lizzy,
I will be starting classes on Feb 2 and we have 2 different uniforms. 1 is for class and 1 for clinicals. I am also in Miami! I am taking classes at Robert Morgan. Feel free to send me a personal message.
    Good luck!

Good luck to all of you. I just completed LPN course in December. In the last 2 weeks I took NCLEX, got results back that I had passed, had school graduation, and got a job. I'm 44 y/o. If I can do it, anyone can. To PYSEYMO, I was soooo nervous about clinicals for the same reasons you are. When I walked into the hospital for the first couple of semesters, I felt like I had been dropped off in a foreign country where nobody spoke my language. Had diarrhea (I know that's gross, but it's the truth) every morning for the first 2 semesters because of my nerves. Once I new more about what I was doing and knew what my instructors expected from me, everything fell into place and I fell in love with nursing. Hang in there. You'll do great!

I am on my last semester started in May, you will do fine. I found it to be pretty easy. Dont get me wrong it gets stressful. Its more time consuming then anything so much to do but not enough time. If you study you will do great. I have a 4.0 and I didnt even graduate high school. LONG story. I found that it is easy to understand the material and you can relate it to something you or a family member has experinced before therefore its easier... goodluck

Hello, This is to RGRGray, How is in the world did you come out of nursing school with a 4.0. The reason I'm asking is because that's my goal. Well, that was my goal until I actually started, now I just want to pass with at least a high "C". I started LPN class on Jan 10th, and we have our first exam tomorrow (Jan 24) and even though I've studied (almost nonstop) I still can't make some of this stuff stick. Will you advise me on a good strategy on studying and learning this stuff? I really want to do good. In Fundamentals, (we use Potter and Perry's 6th Ed) some of the stuff is worded in a way that's really over my head. I have to read it over and over just to make some kind of sense of it . Any advice would be appreciated.

I do remember the first semester of fundamentals and pharmacology. Just read your chapter once through I've been told cause if you keep reading it over and over nothing will register. Listen to the lectures and take a tape recorder to have just in case. It helps when you can't possibly write all the notes you want down. You can review at home. Also if you have reviews for a test a tape recorder comes in handy. Some people find notes cards handy or a study sheet. If you make buddies in class then sharing each others notes and studying together helps. Good luck and I'll keep you in mind and read your postings
