Got my acceptance letter from St. Francis...should I go?

Hi all,

I have been on a roller coaster trying to get my pre-requisites done for the RN program for quite some time. Just recently I decided to do the LVN program at St. Francis Career college because they have a bridge to the RN (pilot) program that is included in the tuition and no waiting list.

I have my acceptance letter but I am afraid that I am making a mistake in paying for a LVN Program when I am 2 classes away from the RN program. My problem is waiting. There are no community colleges that accepts you with classes in progress and I won't be able to start a RN program until Fall 2010. If I do the program at St. Francis, I will almost be graduating by then...Help!

I really need advice from all and if you have been in a similar situation I would love to hear your story...

Congrats on your acceptance! I would do it! It sounds like you would be able to do the LPN and bridge to the RN before you would be able to if you just did a traditional RN program... considering the time it would take to finish you pre reqs and apply to the RN program. Good luck!

Thumbs up Re: Got my acceptance letter from St. Francis...should I go?
Which St Francis Location are you attending? The one in San Jose? When did they start the Pilot Program? I am currently a student at St francis and I absolutely enjoy it. The instructors are great and it is a smaller environment with more hands on experience. I would definitely say go for it.

Best of luck!

I know this is a little late, as orientation for the LVN already started, but I really, REALLY hope you decided to go forward with St. Francis. I just started at the Lynwood location and found the staff to be so motivating and inspirational. Good luck!

I just got accepted for the LVN program at St. Francis San Jose and I will start my orientation next Monday. I applied an RN program at a Comunity Collge after two year prerequisties study and I will have to waiting at least 2 years to get in.( Mabye 3 years). I will give myself a chance to do the fast way . I know the expensive tuition hurt, but I just can not sit there waitting.Good luck !

You go, Michelle!
Since you're so close to being done with the pre-requisites, there's no doubt you'll jump into the bridge program right away. (Assuming that you receive excellent grades throughout your LPN course at St. Francis.) How long will orientation be in San Jose?
In the lynwood campus, it was 3 weeks long!!!
Anyway, I wish you good luck!

Were you guys impressed with St. Francis Career College? I honestly wasn't impressed with the campus. But I'm talking the San Jose Campus. I heard there was a high turn over rate in instructors in the San Jose Campus. I wasn't too thrilled when I heard that. I was accepted and I had very high scores in the placement exams but I just didn't get that feeling so I opted against it. It might have changed since then because I visited the campus back in April 2007 and I'm sure a lot has changed since then.

If you have the opportunity to do the LVN and then bridge into the RN program because it's a pilot program, I can honestly say that I would do it. But keep in mind these pilot programs that are starting really do come with a lot of consequences. You might encounter high turn over rate in instructors. A lot of disorganization amongst the staff and instructors. I've found this out to be true in a lot pilot programs. It's because it's new and they're trying a lot of things out. So if you do the program, expect glitches. But honestly I would do it, you said it, you can't be waiting around. Good Luck
