Entrance Exam New here :)

Nursing Students LPN/LVN Students

Hello!

My name is Tara and I am taking the entrance exam (in a month) to get accepted to a program to get my LPN. I have not been in school for over ten years....... (stay at home mommy to a special needs baby). I am embarassed to say that I have not cracked open a book in over ten years lol.

I would love to know any advice, books basically anything Ishould know before walking into that exam.

I purchased a book to learn algebra etc.. and I also got a barrons practice exam book.

Sorry I am new to the forums not even sure if I am posting correctly.

Can I use a calculator on the test?

Also any certain calculator recomended?

I'm assuming you mean the LPN entrance exam you were talking about in your last post. I took the HESI (I'm under the impression there are a few different tests) and yes they let me use the calculator that was installed on the computer. It was just a very basic add/subtract/multiply/divide calculator but it served its purpose. I just wish it could have helped me more with fractions!

LOL the fractions are killing me right now I wish I would have paid more attention in high school thats for sure....... lol. Thanks :)

I took the test in December and scored "the best" the instructor had seen in a while. If fact she recommended I go straight to the RN program as she felt I would do great as and LPN but that I scored well enough to get into the RN program. I tell you all of this not to brag but because I am 36- and have not opened a book in 18 years!!!! :omy:

I did not do much studying except brush up on Algebra. Thank God my husband is a Mathlete!!! LOL He helped me with basic Algebra and it was enough to get me through the math portion of the test. (Algebra was my WORST subject in school hands down. I STILL don't 'get' it.)

On the test I took- 1/2 of the test was math and the other half was English/ Critical Thinking. The math was long division, multiplication and basic Algebra. The English part had you read things and answer comprehension questions and then the Critical thinking part asked weird questions where a few of the answers could be right but you had to think which one was best. That was about it. HTH!!!

oh yeah. Its basically english and math. English u just read something and they will ask some questions to test your vomprehension. Somethnng like that. Math u gota review bcause u loose it when u dont use it! Adding multiply subtract fractions. Message me if u have more questions

I had to take th NLN exam to get in, and it was english, math, science, and vocabulary. I had a lot of science!! We also were not allowed to bring in calculators, we were allowed to have scrap paper though. Not sure if that differs from school to school or just test to test. It wasn't really a test to study for except maybe algebra, which you're already doing! Good luck!
