How to survive the first two semesters? what is the best pharm. study guide?

How do you like it so far ? I am taking my CNA currently and thinking about LVN , but a lot of people are telling me that I should go for RN. I feel like I should do first LVN ( I have jus few gen ed pre reqs done) whats your opinion about it? Also how do you like clinical rotations , where did you have them ?

I know its a lot of questions, but I am gathering info and will appreciate any input .

as to which to go to it depends on a lot of factors-is the work you want to do as a nurse available to you as an LVN? or in your area of the country is it only RNs that are hired in that area? is it easier to get into an lvn program then bridge over to an rn program? or is it fairly easy to get into an RN program where you are?

lots to think about! if you aren't sure you can shadow lvn's and rn's in the area that you might want to work in...and talk to the college about prereqs and chances of getting into either program. I ended up an lvn first since my school was so so impacted for the rn program. took me 7 more years to finish my rn!

I heard the same thing from people and my family like why are you doing your LPN you should of went staright to RN. But at the end of the day it's you desion ! My main thing was i'm young and i wanted to get my feet wet. I got my CNA at 17 & then graduated from high school. 18 I just felt the need like i can ALWAYS go back for my RN ! In any case LPN is a easier way to become a RN because they have many bridge programs ! And you have some pre reqs thats just another foot step. It all depends on you but if you want to go for your LPN/LVN do it! Because all you can do is beneifit from it.

Clinical rotations in second semester we had 4 days of school one day of clinicals. Then third term 3 days of clinicals 2 days of school. And i've been to about 4 different nursing homes (where most lpns get hired) a hospital and a charted school. Hospital was for maternity (nicu,labor & delivery, mother & baby suite). Charter school was for perdiatrics.And will be going to specialty nursing home for med/surg.

My main thing was keeping up with the homework and assignments. And not to wait till last minute (which was hard to do but procrasination gets you know where) except low grades. Study groups is a big help also! Pharm study guide ? Flash cards are great but also finding a common thing in the drugs like cephalosporins most of the drugs in that category has the word cef- so instead of learning every drug name just learn common thing so when you see like cefuroxime or cefprozil you know they belong to that catergory of drugs & also instead of learning all of the side effects just learn the common ones for that catergory. But you will in some categories of drugs have to just learn each one & know it by heart but thats a short cut. Like pysch drugs learn that a major side effect is eps you know ! but i wish you luck & hope i helped !

@tiffanyrain when do you graduate?

I just finished MDC's LPN program July 27. 1 month ago. checks STILL not sent in to Pearson & DOH to take the NCLEX.

Ridiculous if you ask me. Try and talk to your instructors and convince them to let you pay for NCLEX out of pocket instead of "out of your tution", you'll be waiting forever to sit down for boards.
