Hey guys...I know this question may be dumb:eek:, but has anyone heard of drug testing before acceptance into the nursing program? I thought I've heard of that before and I was just curious:rolleyes: Has anyone else heard of this ? Thanks for any replies:nurse:

I had to have one! It was a requirement here in michigan at Jackson Community College.

Wow! Did you know ahead of time that that was a requirement or did they just spring it on you? And do you know if that is a state law??

It is a requirement here in CT. They let you know ahead of time. I had to have it done with my physical.

we have "pre-acceptance" where we test in and pay to save our spot, and then we have to follow a set of check offs in order to finally get IN, and thats where the drug screen and physical come into play.

Many schools do this because the insurance carriers of the facilities where the students do their clinical work require it as a condition of the students and instructors practicing there. Many jobs also require drug testing--at least almost all that I worked at. When I worked for the VA we could be randomly called to submit to drug testing at any time.

I was not required to take a drug test before acceptance. Although, while on the clinical site, I may be asked to take a random drug test.

Thanks for your replies everyone...Im not worried, as I don't do drugs. It was just a curious question I thought I'd read about before.:nurse:

my program doesn't give them....but the campus does lol.

i would on occasion smoke. needless to say i quit and won't think about touching it ever again. i'm not going to throw my future down the drain just to get high. chances of them doing a drug test are slim to none, but it can still happen....plus i'm 99.9999% positive you have to for clinicals and you'll definitely have to get one when you get a job
