Can't Pass the ERI / ATI Exit PN Exam HELP!!!!!

Nursing Students LPN/LVN Students

first of all i should give a little backstory to my situation as this is my first post. i was supposed to graduate from my pn nursing program (mid-east adult center in zanesville, ohio), in 6/29/09. during my final exams after my 1st of 2 exams the ambulance was called as my instructors recognized that i was septic and i was taken directly to the hospital. within 12 hours i was on a ventilator in complete renal failure on 24hour dialysis with a diagnosis of septic shock/ ecoli. needless to say, i missed my graduation date of 6/29/09 . but at least i was alive so i was happy for that. unfortunately, i miscarried and i was almost 5 months along. i was in the hospital for over 2 weeks. i was able to schedule my last final (the ob/peds i took when i was in shock i scored 90%:yeah:) once i got home from the hospital. i took that exam (med surg) in mid to late july and i scored a 91%!:yeah:i was so thankful! i received my diploma and scheduled the dreaded exit exam for a week later. i took the eri pn exit (assessment) and bombed it with a 58% (63% is needed to pass so that i may be eligible to sit for boards).i didn't get a chance to see which questions i got wrong since they used rapid scoring instead of mailing it out to be scored so unfortunately i didn't get a paper with rationales or the areas that i was weak in or anything!:banghead:i need help here!!! i have 2 more chances to take the exam and i want to be more prepared this time. the test consisted of 220 questions and i was totally unprepared for the question type and format, especially the nursing delegation and mental health questions. i have heard that eri and ati have merged and i made a call to their offices and was told that ati offers a pn online assessment including rationales for 40$ and that it will give you access 5 times. can anyone give me some study tips or books/online reading that you recommend to tackle this assessment. i have been through so much and will not let this keep me from my dream of becoming a nurse. any help/ideas would be appreciated.

We have to take ERI tests along with each of our classes...for example, last term for Pharmacology we had to take the dosage calculation and PN pharmacology ...there are also practice tests for each. The website we have to go to is www.eriworld.com. They require some information regarding your school in order for you to sign up...having taken several of their tests now, it is much easier the 2nd time you take a particular test...especially since if you didn't know what an answer was and had to guess at it, you can go look it up. If you can take any type of review for the ERI I would recommend it. Good luck!

thanks for the info....does anyone else have any suggestions for me? They would be greatly appreciated!

I took the ATI PN review, which was very good. We got the full review, I cant remember how much it costed, but they test you on every subject possible. You have an onlie coach with you every step of the way. So far everyone in my class has passed the boards by doing ATI. For my exit exam i scored in the 60's and they were approx 95% sure I was going to pass the boards. I will be sitting for my boards in a couple of weeks so I will see if it paid off. ATI has so many books and learning activities for you to study and your coach doesnt let you move on until you pass the assessment test with a good score.:loveya:

can they hold your grades and stop you from takeing the board exam if you do not pass?

They didn't hold my grades per se. I did receive my transcripts and diploma, however the catch with that is that in order to sit for boards the school must send in your information to the Board of Nursing to say that you are 'eligible' to sit for boards. So in essence, you can graduate and have your transcripts but never be 'eligible' to sit for boards till you pass their exit exam.

Wow! We don't even get our diploma or transcripts without passing the exit exam. I wish there was a way to go around this issue. I was told that someone did not pass their exit exam 3 times but when it came to the boards they passed the first time. the exit exam is just suppose to be a predictor, but i found it really hard to study for the exit exam as the nclex you know what topics to study.

Yeah, I know what you mean. i've always done awesome on the Nclex cds and books but when it comes to the exit exam, its something that is beyond difficult. Its been quite a few months since I've been out of school and I'm so discouraged. trying to study but I feel like its hopeless.

you can't give up. You have to believe in yourself that you are meant to be a nurse, know that you will excel at everything you so in your career. and most importantly, THIS EXAM WILL NOT HOLD YOU BACK!!:nurse: I'm sure you did not go to school and pass all those test and give up your freedom just to give up. You can't stop now, keep pushing your self, only you determine your future:up:

Thought I would post a followup for everyone...Better late than never I say. Well, retook the LPN exit exam this morning and PASSED!!!Just waiting for the boards now. SO GLAD THAT IS OVER!!!! Thanks to everyone on this board for the great advice and kind words.

Hello my name is T and i have to take the exit exam for ATI july 26th im very nervous and dont know what to study could u please help me

Hey T, Thats great your schooling is almost over!!! Now comes the fun part. The dreaded EXIT exam. well, It was a total of 220 questions. There was alot of medication questions so definitely brush up on the contraindicated info for the drugs. I remember alot of questions regarding high blood pressure meds. Also, know sample menus for things link low sodium, cystic fibrosis snacks and things like that. Know Addisons disease, Sickle cell crisis information too. I did see some lab value atuff on there. Mainly study Metabolic acidosis, alkalosis Respiratory acidosis and alkalosis. Def study lab values period. Med Surg was a big area as well. I didn't hardly see any questions regarding stages of development for PEDS though. It was difficult, I won't lie about that, but it IS doable with alot of studying. I used notecards I made myself along with a Saunders NClex book. I thought it was really helpful. Good luck.
