Almost 4 months in?

Wow has it already been almost 4 months. Seems crazy looking back on it. I have taken so many tests and covered so much material. I am now so much more confident in my abilities as a person and a nurse. I have conquered a lot of my fears already nursing and non nursing related. I was scared of subq injections well after giving a lot of insulin no biggy. I was scared of IM after the flu shot clinic, easy. Feeding tube piece of toast. I was terrified to drive in the neighboring town, well we had computer training there so I sucked it up and it wasn't as bad as I thought. I am ready to voice my opinion now and stand up for what I think and why before I tried to hide. I have grown so much as a person in the past 3 months that I am looking forward to seeing who I am come June. How is everyone doing?

That is an excellent way to sum up how I feel, grown as a person. I haven't done the injection meds yet, but have done some wound care and PO meds. My fears too are slowly being diminished as I complete the tasks.

Additionally, I have finally found a career that I love. I finally am not searching every night to try and figure out what I want to do with my life, now I know! I work as an aide part time and cant wait to be in the nurses position, do assessments, get more in depth with people and health problems. I love the challenges involved in nursing that I have experienced so far, and although sometimes it is hard to overcome, it is also rewarding to do so.

I wish we were able to do that much in the first four month. We didn't even start going to the hospital until 10 months into our 18 month program (We were in a nursing home).

Now I'm 6 weeks away from taking the Hesi.

Great post! I am almost done with my first semester. Just like you, I have taken so many tests, completed so many skill check offs, had to get past whatever fear I had about xyz and just complete the task at hand and it has made me a stronger person. I realize that this whole experience is challenging me in ways I couldn't have ever imagined. Did I say this semester went by so quickly?!

I have an AAS in medical assisting but the knowledge I have gained in the last 3 months far exceeds what I learned in the two years I spent on my degree. I love that nursing teaches me why diseases act like they do and why we are giving certain meds rather than step 1, 2, and 3 only. I feel more confident in my care and patient education comes more from logic than memorizing a textbook (and is much easier to talk with the patient rather than at the patient).

Oh man! This past week was the end of the 10th week, 30 more to go! I am still working part time at the pharmacy. We have been checked off for everything except wound dressing and vital signs. We start clinical on Thursday at local nursing homes. (I am SO nervous). So far so good, first quarter is done (each one is 10 weeks and we get a report card for each, and then each semester is 20 weeks) and so 10 weeks in I am on high honor! I have had days where I just wanted to give up and cry, and I have had days in class where everything just "fell into place" and I felt like I was on top of the world. I also was elected class president so I need to make a speech at capping and graduation. It has been going by so fast! And I am amazed how fast it is going by! I also love how people think we have learned about all these different illnesses and they keep asking me for advice now. :]

Oh you know, I feel constant tension and stress. Punctuated by moments of sheer terror. Other than that, things are going swimmingly... ;)

I'm also 4 months in ! Tomorrow is our Med surg 1 final I'm so glad it's over med surg was hard , then we move on to OB can't wait
