Affording student loans for nursing - single mom

Students LPN/LVN Students

OK I want to attend LVN program. My issue is student loans. I can't afford the tuition. I will also need to work full time while in school. I heard about a program for single moms to attend with free tuition, government grant, I'd need that plus a full time job while in school. I don't think I can do it any other way. I don't want to be stuck paying off student loans forever. A few years ago I had to go around asking churches for money as I was dead broke. Nobody would help me. Talk about Christians, eh? I guess I need to get past some of my grudges and deal with life but as a single mom who is financially struggling it's very hard.

Hello!

It is commendable that you are determined to go to school, work, and be a mom at the same time. It is definitely a tough journey.

On the things you have addressed:

1) When you decide which LVN school to go to, visit their Financial Aid office. Find out which grants they have available. PELL grant is federal and they should have it. This is going to help you tremendously. If you have to get a student loan, it should not be for much.

2) Where is the daddy? Your child has the right to be economically sustained by both parents. It is the law. You need to pursue it, unless if you are a victim of sexual assault and do not know the offender.

* If he is alive and well, get DCF involved to set a court date to establish alimony.

* If an order for child support is already in place, but he is not paying... call the police and have him locked up. He will complain about not being able to help you if he is in jail. My take??? If you and the child are suffering, then he should suffer too. Either everyone is happy, or everyone is suffering. Period.

* If he has passed away, contact the Social Security office. Find out if your child is eligible for SSC benefits. Be prepared to submit evidence such dad's death certificate, your birth certificate, and your child's birth certificate.

Best wishes!

If you are struggling to obtain student loans for an LVN program, I have the sneaking suspicion you want to attend one of the grossly overpriced investor-owned schools that charges $25,000 to $30,000 in tuition and fees...

This is not the best move, especially when a plethora of community college LVN programs in your area charge about $6,000 in tuition. Buyer beware...
