Want to be paid fairly

I am an experienced LPN, 17 yrs, with undergrad. degree in psych.
At my workplace, a brand new LPN threatened to quit and ended up with a higher salary than me! I feel very angry about this and want to get paid fairly. In 8 yrs, I plan on retiring from there and do not have the option of resigning. This has not happened to me before. Please advise. Thank you!

I would just talk to your boss and ask them how this is possible.

Without a Union this can and does happen. Not much you can do except threaten to quit too, but then you risk having your DON take you up on that threat and you are out of a job, I say find another job first then have a talk with the DON.

Unfortunately, your employer has absolutely no incentive to pay you more money if they are aware that you plan to stick around until retirement. Employers focus on the recruitment of newer employees, not the retention of older employees.
