Valedictorian caught cheating

Nurses LPN/LVN

Published

so my graduating class just found out who will be representing our class as valedictorian and it's a student that was caught cheating on an exam. she was caught on camera and later admitted to the cheating. I feel someone like this should not represent our school or class as a valedictorian. It sets a bad example that cheating will be tolerated. there are many students that sacrifice so much for nursing and this bothers me that someone like this would be honored. she was caught once cheating but there could be other times she cheated and didnt get caught. I addressed this issue with administration. Please give me your opinion about this. Am I over thinking this?

I'm surprised that she's still in the program!

Wow.. I'm sure there were plenty of hardworking students who didn't cheat and still did well in the program. It is a slap in the face to those students. It's easy to get great grades when you cheat.

ParvulusPuella exactly they gave her a second chance that doesn't mean she should be valedictorian she's a cheater

Xoemmylouox yes and that why my class is protesting because she out beat another student who is hardworking. Her GPA 3.92 the other student 3.84 smh

My opinion is this: If she received a zero on the assignment and went through the disciplinary process and had her transcript noted and she is still the valedictorian? Then that is all they can do.

She has probably been cheating through the program and finally got caught. Trust me, it will be self-correcting because all she will be cheating is herself.

...and good luck trying to get a job with that on your transcript. It's no new grad I would hire, that's for sure.

The programs around here will not kick you out of the program for ONE incidence of cheating on an exam or assignment. They just notate your transcript.

Doing something in clinical will get you immediately dismissed (false charting, etc.).

They had her retake the test but gave her and extra week to study which still wasnt fair

Times sure have changed. Transcripts and GPA didn't mean diddly squat when I graduated. No one asked what your Board scores were, either (there were 5, btw). All they wanted was your shiny new Nurse license (the Internet didn't exist, so there was no real time look up). Doesn't this, as much as anything else, just prove that there is a Nursing glut and not a shortage?

How THE hell does that make any sense?! That is not even close to fair at all.

Sounds to me like there is some favoritism going on or maybe she knows someone somewhere...

What the.....who is she sleeping with?!

My program has a one strike rule when it comes to cheating, and that's as it should be! With waiting lists what they are, no cheater should be allowed to take up space that an honest, hardworking student needs.

I hope she fails the NCLEX. Miserably, and repeatedly. How dare your school slap every other student in the face this way?! What kind of mickey mouse outfit is this place, anyway?
