Travel nursing opportunities???????

Usually, agencies hire only RN for their traveling assignment. I don't agree with that, and maybe someone else can chime in and explain why LPN's are not hired for travel assignments.

Thankfully this is not true! However, there are fewer travel assignments for LPNs than RNs, the reason is of course...money! A agency charges the hospital/facility a fee for the nurses, and out of that must also pay for the housing, travel money, etc. Now the agency can pay the LPN less money hourly, but must still provide housing, travel, license cost etc out of the money it charges the facility. In other words, the agency has to charge less for the LPN, but still provide many of the same benefits with less of a profit margin than an RN.

IF the facility has to pay for a agency nurse, they might as well pay for an RN rather than an LPN. The RN also does not need to be covered by an RN. But if a facility can not get a RN, many times they will take an experienced LPN.

I traveled for over 12years, working at hospitals, and clinics across the southeast, and the west. I regularly get emails from agencies looking for LPNs for travel contracts.

I no longer work as an LPN, but work as an analyst in I. S. now. However, if not for working on a contract with a HMO, I would have never gained experience with EPIC, which is how I finally got out of nursing!

I am an LPN on my first assignment. I have a great recruiter. I am on the Chesapeake Bay and 45 minutes from the Atlantic and right in the middle of a ton of history. I was placed in a very ecclectic small town in Maryland. Love the area.

The job is not exactly what I "interviewed for" but I am thankful to be in travel nursing..it was my dream for about 9 years and I finally just woke up one day and said, its time...and here I am!

I think..know, I know when I get to a certain place, I will call it home and I wont travel anymore..I am on the East Coast and am a West Coast person. Nursing is a burnout job and I see it approaching for me within the next 5 years. Anyway, yes, they do hire LPN's and if its your dream..go for it.
