I believe there are some old posts here that talk about starting your own agency. I think one of the

moderators of allnurses posted some things.

anyways I think do-able and probably great venture.

I knew an RN once that was unfairly fired from a job.

He used his credit card limit to start a company.

He was the first nurse that he sent out on assignments and then some of his

friends helped. Became very successful eventually.

Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.

I know in 2007 in Southern CA, home health agency was billing at $60 hr

minus nurse payroll, good business!

Home health agencies startup became much more difficult starting in November of 2007 (fiscal year 2008) with state budget problems and the prioritizing of Medicare offices functions, with the initial certifications being placed at the bottom of the list or stopped completely.

2-3 years for an inital site visit (to start medicare reimbursement) is not uncommon. Private accreditation agencies will do the site visit for a fee, and the requirements are more stringent than medicare, and require more education for yourself and your employees.

Finding a way to stay in business until the certification is the problem, and I belive that most recent home health agency startups have failed due to lack of capital until the initial certification visit.

starting a home care agency can be a daunting task. the license process, business formation, hiring new clients and staff, taxes, marketing or obtaining insurances can be overwhelming.

people are intimidated by starting a home health agency due to the amount of work involved. the ones that go through the process report home health agency business is gratifying and financially rewarding. this is a business that is here to stay. the market share is huge and it presents many opportunities to generate revenue

people that are new to the industry usually choose to start with a non medical home care agency to get a wing of the business dynamics before venturing into home health

home health agency start up guides are very affordable and can help eliminate most of the headaches of starting an agency. they provide comprehensive information to meet licensure requirements, policies and procedures, operations manual and much more

precision manuals available at http://www.medicalstaffingmanuals.com goes the extra mile to offer phone and email support to individuals starting a home health agency. support is provided by current home health agency owners and experts. this needed support is crucial to the success of starters as they have a reliable mentor.

Hello. This has been an interesting & helpful thread. My situation is this: I am a RN and have been doing Homecare for 5 yrs in the field. I recently was offered a DON position at a new Homecare agency. The problem is how do I know what the surveyors will be looking for? (they are already in the final stages and survey is coming up in Dec for Medicare).

I know what forms I have used in the field but being in the office is a whole other thing! I'm also not sure about what absolutely has to be in the chart, what kind of questions will be asked, etc. Any help will be much, much appreciated!!
