Question About What Procedures LVNs Do?

These questions might sound kind of dumb, but I was wondering what procedures LVNs are aloud to do? And if you could tell me what the procedures are and how you do them. Sorry I really just want to know what to expect once I start nursing school. And last could someone tell me what peds means? Sorry I have no experience at all in the medical field and I want to become me knowledgeable about LVNs because I going to become an LVN. I start NURSIN SCHOOL in Fall 2008 if not for sure in Fall 2009!!! Any advice or tips would be greatly apprecited, thanks!!!

What an LPN/LVN is allowed to do truly depends upon their state's nurse practice act. I see that you are in California, which places quite a few restrictions on what LVNs are allowed to do. I am in Texas, where I am permitted to do everything that RNs do except pronounce death, push specific IV meds such as Vitamin K, and complete the initial hospital assessment.

Your school will have clinical rotations that involve practicing as a student nurse inside hospitals, clinics, and nursing homes. Therefore, your school will notify you of what procedures they expect you to learn.

"Peds" is simply an abbreviation for "pediatrics."

Missy, No such thing as a dumb question, and only the dumb are afraid to ask for fear of seeming dumb. I just found downloaded an nclex pn review, published by Peterson - it seems to spell out your question: http://www.petersons.com/pdf/free/NCLEX-PN.pdf
hope it answers your question.

Thank you so much!!! I wish I lived in Texas, it sounds like a great place to be an LVN where you can do everything an RN can do!!! I am eventually going to become an RN but I want to start working as a Nurse now not later because i have 7 to 8 classes I have to complete before i can even put my name on the RN wait list which means 3 to 4 years before I can put my name on the RN wait list and 1 to 2 years before I start nursing school. So I am going to become an LVN first will give me experience as a nurse, I reallly want to work in the ER or Labor & Delivery!!! if LVNs could work in there I would ju stay an LVN but unfortunatley they don't-I think they should be able because LVNs are great!!!thanks for the advice I really appreciate it!!!
