Newbie!

Hello! Everyone
I need some advice!!!! Can someone please help me! I just started a LVN program at a private school and the cost is 21,000 dollars. I applied for grants and loan, but I don't want to be in debt!! I took this route because of my age and the time limit and waiting list option. Is it true to enroll in a community college or private school? I know it is alot cheaper but what do employers look at? I want to bridge over to become an RN! Is it better to continue at this private school or go to a community college. Right now! I'm a single Mother trying very hard to raise my children. I just don't want to waste my time. Does employers look down upon some of these private schools. Can someone give me some sound advice? Thank you! corrinej(Living in Cali)

Thats a lot of money for an LPN program. If there is a less expensive way to go, I would do it. As long as it is approved by the BON it should be fine. I don't believe it matters to the employer where you get your training (just get it and keep on going). Best of luck to you.

I attended a community college. The college I wanted to attend was also wayyy to expensive. I asked the hospitals what they thought of the college I went to and they said they loved grads from my school (it is well known and well established), she said they were really hard workers. Plus, they look at the license not where you went to school. But, do make sure they are accredited!!! We have one local "college" that isn't...feel so bad for those grads. Good luck!

Few years ago, I was debating whether to pay $25,000 of LVN program. I decided it was not cost effective. I am actually going for my RN for a little less than that.

I paid $20,000 to attend a southern California LVN program at a private vocational school and have encountered no problems with finding a job. Employers pay attention to your nursing license, not your school.
