New LPN having a hard time finding work!!!

I graduated from school in March and Passed the boards like 3 weeks later, I am just finding it so hard to find work because everyone expects you to have experience prior to them hiring you. I don't get it! Every where that I've inerviewed I've gotten good responses and they all tell me that if I had the experience necessary I would've been hired, this is just sad. Any suggestions? Please help!!

What doesn't make any sense is that they know by looking at your application and resume that you don't have any experience yet they still call you in for an interview. Employers are crazy these days.

I am in the same situation. I got lucky by looking for a mentoring program (Interim Healthcare) in my area. I asked on interviewer the same question, "how am I supposed to get experience if no one will hire me because I am a new grad?" They had no real answer.

I feel your pain! I passed my boards and got my license in March, and have applied for LVN/LPN positions with no luck due to lack of experience, and I even tried to apply for a caregiver position just to try to get my foot in the door in hopes of one day filling an Lvn position when one opened up, but they would not hire me because I was "overqualified!" augh! I have another interview tomorrow, and hope that they give me a chance! lsebeg:It's frustrating because all I looked forward to after graduating was passing my boards and going to work right away! I don't know where you are located but in Northern California, it's horrible for new graduates! When you read an ad for jobs for an LPN/LVN and then in bold letters it says NO NEW GRADS! It hurts! Anyways don't give up as I am trying not to either! Things have got to get better!! Take care!

Happybird, how did your interview go? I went to Sacramento today to pay for my license and I am really starting to freak out reading all these posts with people having a terrible time finding a job. I'm officially hitting the pavement tomorrow.

Sensoria17,
Hi! My interview went great I think. However, the DON told me that he had 5 more people to interview after me, and I would hear something from them in about a week. He also said that there were 20 applicants for the position I applied to, so I hope that I impressed him enough to get hired. Where are you located? I am over in Sonoma county area....

Wow, twenty applicants for one position! I'm assuming this is for is for a SNF. I'm in the San Francisco Bay Area, about 10-15 minutes from Oakland. I'm wishing you lots of luck and I hope we hear some good news from you.

Thank you for the wishes!!I always see lvn jobs down your way so maybe you will have better luck than I am right now. The DON who interviewed me said that it's tough for all nurses looking for work, and that's when he shared how many applicants he had(normally only 2 or 3 instead of the 20) The facility is an assisted living/retirement facility, and they have lvns there and caregivers. The position is parttime which at this point I am willing to take anything to get my foot in the door. I did apply to a snf that's closer to my house, and hoping to hear from them soon. Well I wish you good luck with your job search and let me know when you find something! Hopefully next week I will have some good news too! Take care!
