Need some advice

I'm new to the boards so forgive me if this question has been asked before.

I am a VN student (2nd time around...had to leave the first time because of death in the family.) I am an MA and have lots of experience in the medical field (offices.)

I am going to challenge the boards to get my CNA so I can start working in LTC and get some experience under my belt.

Right after I graduate as a LVN I plan on going right into the LVN-BSN online program through Indiana State University.

Where should I go right out of school? LTC, Acute, etc? I'm very quick on my feet, great at multi tasking, etc. I'm quick with my documentation so times between patients shouldn't really be too bad unless I need to write a book

Any words of wisdom or advice you have would be great!!

Thanks!
Jo

I believe you have your plan already made out. I am currently in an LTC and have been since getting my license 16 months ago. I had NO prior experience. I felt that this setting would be best for me because #1 PAY, #2 Lots of residents with a variety of physical illness as well as pysch. It is not traditional med/surg experience but it is experience none the less. If you are in the same boat as most of us, Money will be a factor. I know online study is very expensive. I am thinking of going that route myself. I would have to recommend LTC but then I am biased. I, also, have heard that some hospitals will pay for up to half of tuition costs with a contract. Something for you to look at!! Good Luck with your plans.

Im planning on going to Indiana State University as well. Do you have to work as an LVN for so long before you can apply for the program?

No. I'm actually enrolling in the college network portion on Friday and I haven't even graduated from my LVN program yet.

It's not cheap but in my opinion well worth it...since I won't have to suffer through all the CC and University BS.

Best of luck
Jo

Im just a student as well and trying to figure out where I want to go after. How much is it costing you? Do you know what the pre-requisites are?How long is the program, does that really depend on what college courses you currently have?
Good luck!
