Making the move from Alberta LPN to U.S, LPN

Updated Oct 02, 2009 at 05:03 PM by cvprovost

Hi Everyone,

I am an LPN that is currently living and working in Alberta and with all the talk of cut backs , I have been checking out my options. Does any one know what it is you need to do and how to get your LPN license for the US? Also do they hire LPNs for anything other then long term care? If so where do you look for the hospital postings?
Thanks in advance for all the advice .

From what's been posted, you really have to decide which state you want to work in and apply to their Board of Nurses (our provincial colleges). Duckit and Fast Eddie haven't actually got around to laying off nurses yet, so if you have a bit of seniority I wouldn't sweat it. Remember all those IENs that were brought over last summer? They will lose their jobs first. They came on employment contracts tied to specific visas.

A better question would be do you qualify for a visa?
