lpn work in a doctor's office

Nurses LPN/LVN

Published

Help please! I need to work asap! I wanted to know if I want to start working in a doctors' office what would be required? I'm a licensed LPN ( new grad) do I need to have any special licenses like phlebotomy and IV before I could start ?

Employers usually list their requirements in their ads placed on the employment websites. Take a look at the various job sites for the office nurse positions to see what is available, but be forewarned that there are less office positions available than other kinds of work, and many, if not most, of these positions now go to medical assistants. If you need to work now, you would find an easier time getting a job in a LTC facility. Just check out the employment websites to see what is there. Good luck.

Thanks for your input!

I work in a Peds office. There wasn't really anything they required, and I am IV certified but won't ever utilize that skill in the office. We also have a lab tech from the local Children's hospital that draws all our labs. I love working in the office setting, no weekends and no holidays. Good luck!! :)

Missy, can I have your job lol? Been an LPN for 25 yrs. but never in an office setting. They want EKG and blood drawing done mostly. I have zero experience in either but I want in soooo bad. I've been in pediatric homecare for the last 11 yrs. here in Tampa.

Lol:)

Just show them you are enthusiastic and eager to learn. I've never done blood draws either, only in school. I hope you get it:)

It depends to your employer what certifications you'll need at work. Some employers will send you in class to be certified in certain skills some don't.

The company I work for did all the teaching and additional certifications on site. I agree with above poster, I love weekends, nights and holidays off. :-)
