Dec 7, '08Quote from JustcallmebobThere's a lot of reading, but not out loud. I've found most instructors are sensitive to documented stuff. I'm an amputee and rarely tell my clinical intstructors, unless I have to. Example, when the hospital talks about parking, I will let my instructor know that I'll be parking in disabled parking just in case the hospital questions her. They have all been great about that. Also, I can do everything any other student can do, but getting down on the floor to measure chest drainage might take me a little longer. They have all been fine and still ask if they could do it for me ( I always decline the offer). So, I say go for it!! Keep us posted.Hi all question for you. I'm a C.N.A. here in Arizona and considering getting into a L.P.N. program. I do well as a C.N.A. and my employers have been happy with me.
I am concerned about school. I am a person who Stutters and frankly have a pretty substantial phobia of reading out loud because of this. Could anyone elaborate on how much reading is actually involved in class? Has anyone had the same problem or know of someone who has who completed L.P.N. or R.N.? Will most instructors be sensitive of this?
Any input you can provide will be greatly appreciated.
Dec 8, '08Wow, I see that the most valuable of professionals are paid the least. That is really pathetic. I lived in TN for 8 yrs before moving to Mi. last month and realized, cops($9-12 per hour, paramedics($12-16 p/hr), EMT's ($8-10), LPNS ($12-18) and even some RN's($20-30) were desperately underpaid. That's awful.
Not gonna stop me from doing what I love though. RN is my goal but right now I'm an working on EMT registry (already graduated the class) and then LPN school. One day...I'm gonna fly.
Dec 8, '08I am in Miami (no state income tax) and I work 3-12 hour day shifts per week. That is 72 hours per pay period which is considered full time. I am a new graduate and make $18.50 per hour. If I want an extra 8 hour shift to get to 80 hrs per week, I can have it.
Health, Dental, 401K, meals, holiday pay, vacation hours etc...
I am very happy!
Dec 11, '08Hi here in BC, Canada the starting wage now is C$23.74/hour. I'm working in a hospital either the same rate or much lower when you are working in a private facilities (nursing homes, assisted living, etc.) since all hospitals here are under government. When you work in hospitals here is higher than in private facilities.

I would say that SOME instructors may be sensitive to your needs, but every instructor is different. In my school.. it seemed as though my instructors were TRYING to prepare us for the stress of the real world or something, because they. were. horrible!
Please don't be discouraged! Every instructor is different!
Dec 13, '08I am a new LPN in LTC in Upstate NY. I started out at $13.59 plus shift & weekend diffs, as well as incentive pay if I work a weekend that I'm not scheduled for. In that case, it is time & one half plus $2 for Sats & $4 for Sun. So, when I picked up hours for tomorrow morning working with the aides doing cares, I'll be making approximately $24.38 per hour. Yeah, I'll take that!
