LPN to RN - Can't afford it!

I know going back to school for the RN could be financially draining but have you thought how much extra money you would be earning once you become an RN??? Sometimes the RN salary doubles the LPNs.

I agree with you. LVN to RN classes specially the accelerated ones are almost a mortgage payment. Me and my husband are still working to pay our LVN loans. But he told me he has to pursue his RN even if we have to pay a pretty penny because the longer he's not an RN the more we have to work. My advise keep going to pursue your RN it will definitely pay in time.

The government does offer loan forgiveness, but you have to work in certain areas to get it. Perhaps you can get some of the debt you already owe forgived??

How much is the LPN to RN if I may ask? I got $7000 in loans for my RN to BSN program (took the tuition reimbursement and am committed to where I work, and am applying for loan forgiveness) and the payback is only $52.00 per month.

I would think with the raise you're going to get from getting your RN it might be worth getting more loans as long as it's not one of those private schools that charge 30 grand.

I Looked at it as I couldn't aford not to. I make $7.00 more an hour today because of that. 7 x 80 x 26 = $14,560. that is like having a second job...

I don't know where you live, but I'm doing Excelsior, and the final cost exclusive of books and outside workshops will be around $5,000. It always surprises me when people beman how expensive Excelsior is.

It's an investment - and a small one - in the future, for yourself and your family.

LPN tp RN through Excelsior is only $5K....wow! I thought it was in the $20K range....

No, around $900 to enroll, another 1500 for tests, 1700 for CPNE, 1k for graduation.

Now, do NOT get sucked into TCN or Rue!

Suesquatch is so right! I though excelsior was going to set me back a pretty penny but I added up the cost and its about $5000. And I like the fact that they let you break up the payments into 5 and 6 payment and you pay as you go. It's so much cheaper than traditional school and in the comforts of your own home. But you have to be disciplined and everyone does not learn well this way. Good luck in whatever you decide.
