Lpn refresher course in georgia

  1. 0
Hello I am a new grad LPN currently licensed in Indiana, but residing in Georgia. I've applied for licensure by endorsement, and after a month in a half of processing my application, and telling me I couldn't get licensed because I didn't meet the clock hour requirements for Georgia, the board members have finally decided to allow me to take a LPN refresher course. Great! I can finally get licensed. The only problem is, I can't find anyone that offers them here in Ga. Can anyone help me or give advice on this? Please and thank you.

ok... i'm probably talking out of my butt here....

If you're having problems getting licensed in GA, then maybe try getting licensed in one of the surrounding states by GA? I think if you can get a license transfer in one state somewhere in one of those "compacts" or w/e they call them, you will then automatically be licensed in the surrounding states as well.

However, just grabbing in the dark here.

As far as refresher courses... out of my league.

Thank you but knowing how strict GA BON is, they probably won't allow that. I did, actually find a refresher program in Greenville SC that's approved in Ga. But it's like $1000. So I'm stuck trying to decide if I wanna pay or just work as a CNA until I finish school for my RN.

That's too much GA does the most! Have u started a RN program yet? Seems like a waste if LPN school can u maybe come get licensed in FL & endorse to GA?

Yes they do thee absolute most. I'm thinking about giving up and just moving back to Indiana where I'm licensed, that way I can at least work as an LPN. I haven't started an RN program yet. I'm in the process of looking for the right school and plan on starting this summer or fall.

Wow $1000 for a refresher course? GA is too much and that would be a waste of your time and money not working as an LPN especially since you've worked so hard. I would just move back to Indiana and work as an LPN making decent money until you are finished your RN. Good luck hun

Thanks. Packing up and moving back was never supposed to be an option, but may be very well what I have to do. And I did my homework on the Georgia BON thoroughly before I moved here. Unfortunately you can't research the requirements and rules they decide to throw in along the way. I just want to fulfill my dream of being a nurse and Georgia is making it very hard.

How many clock hours did your school have...I am scared they are going to do the same to me. I have lived in ga for 10 years but went to school in Alabama. My school has 1308 clock hours and ga only requires 1107 together how many hours did your school have? I am going to apply in sc ....I live on the boarder almost. I wish I would of read the application more in depth about the clock hours..I mean who are they to say where you went to school is not goof enough...but u passed the nclex. It's ridiculous and ga is the only state that requires this. Of course if you go to to school out of state the clock hours will be different. I just don't understand ....

They told me I was short 65 clinical hours. I was good on didactic hours. The clock hours form wasn't even included in the ga endorsement application. They added it in while they were processing it. Which of course meant more time. Then they just flat out said no. I was devastated. But after some phone calls and letters and a lot of convincing they told me I can do a refresher course but no one offers them. And the one I did find cost too much, and I would have to set up my own clinicals. So I feel like I've hit yet another dead end. I shouldn't have to take a refresher course when I've only been out of school since April 2012.

I feel u on that....but I'm looking for this rule to get overturned just like the accrediation rule they had did.. It just does not make any sense. Try and apply online at usajobs.com. It's military facilities and u can work under any state license. What school u went to should not matter as long as u pass the nclex. I think I will be short in clinical hours too..my school only required 320 and they require 485...but lab and everything should be included in clinical hours.
