LPN, Nurses is it really a great profession?

I just started working at a nursing home where LPN's always outnumber RN's. And I'm a CNA who is just starting out not really enjoying the job as a whole. I'm also planing on getting my LPN or RN in the future. My thing is that most of all the LPN's I talk to or RN's I come across tell me that becoming a Nurse isnt as great as it looks. And most of all the LPN's at my job don't look happy. Many of them looked burnt out or just not happy. My question is it really all that bad? And why does it seem that most nurses I run into tell me not to go into nursing. Its one nurse( LPN) at my job who has been a nurse of about 20yrs. And she looks as if she is bitting socks daily. I want to have a career in which I'm happy. I don't want to go into this direction if its not worth it. So is it really all that bad?

I have been a nurse for 11 years and LOVE it...I think that if it is your passion and you have a vision, you should pursue your dream. Is it great every day...no, but what is.? Maybe the problem with the nurses that you are talking to is that they don't like their current job...I worked Ped's for 1.5 yrs and Oncology for a year and didn't love it...I realized Urgent Care or ER nursing (which I have been doing for 3 yrs) is what I LOVE. Follow your heart...it never lies! Good luck to you

If I worked in a nursing home, I would be very unhappy too.

LOL, great feedback....... I would love to hear more! And ER Junkie that was funny but I'm starting to feel it isnt for me neither. I rather be at a hospital. In due time I will make that transition.

Hi Future Nurse 23. What made u become a CNA? When I first became a CNA I really did not enjoy it as a whole either. It took me maybe 6mos-1yr
to love what i did for a living. And I fell in love with the residents right away it just took me awhile to get used to short staffing and some pain in the neck nurses. I've been an LPN for 3yrs now and I enjoy that as well. But with that is also alot of responsibilty. Since I work in a nursing home I don't get to interact as much with my residents as I used to as a CNA. Believe it or not I do miss it!! I don't know how long you have been a CNA for but maybe in time u will come to enjoy your line of work. But if not I don't recommend you pursuing a career in nursing. It takes alot of heart and patience to be in nursing. Good luck in your pursuits!!

I have been a CNA less than a month. Everyday I get better and better at my skills and assisting the residents. Now that I'm starting to get better at the job functions I'm really starting to like being a CNA. I love giving a warm touch to my residents. And I like knowing that someone is counting on me to make them feel better or loved. I didnt enjoy it at first due to I felt inadequete about my skills. Now that I'm learning the ropes and getting better I'm starting to love it.
