This topic has been around before, but I was looking for something more up to date. Things have fluctuated in past two years or so. I know people are always looking for salaries and most of the time... Read More

blue chip, I live in OK as well. I'm a nursing student. Our hospital starts LPN's out at 10.35. I'm working so hard in school, I'm not too happy about rate of salary. It's not much to look forward to. It seems to me if there was such a nursing shortage they would up the pay a little. I don't understand. The cost of living here is not really that much lower than other places.
That does seem like a REALLY low rate of pay. I remember reading that the RNs on OK make lousy money too. Your cost of living must be lower......What does a 3 bedroom houst cost? How much is it to rent a one bedroom apartment?
Here in CA, you need at least 300,000 for that 3 bedroom house, and 850 a month for the one bedroom apartment. (Much higher in L.A. or the SF Bay Area)

I moved here from Los Angeles County approx. 12 years ago. It's true, housing is much lower here. You can get a 3 bedroom for $100,000 in S.E. OK depending where you buy. That is a simple middle class neighborhood. Everything else is as high or higher. My food bill is more. My utilities are more. Even with the cost of housing so much lower, I still think 10.35 is too low.

Not to be TOO argumentative, but our utility bill here in CA (gas and electric) ranges from 150 to 300 a month.
But yes, I still think 10.35 is insulting!

When I left CA 12 years ago my utilities were not even close to that. Maybe rates have gone up. My utilities are close to $300.00 a month, but our weather is more severe. 19 deg. yesterday morning (shivering). We can make a little more in LTC, but I want to work at the hospital, so I'll live with it.

Wow! reading the pay rates almost makes me wanna scream. I went into nursing because I wanted to a career that would give me more options as to where I can work, and a job where supply and demand wasn't depleted. Plus I feel like I can do more as a nurse than as a CNA. But if this is what the pay rate is like, than I don't know now. I mean it should be more. We should get paid just for the simple fact that he survived nursing school, which is a horror in itself. But $14-$18 dollars ain't gonna cut it for me. I could have stayed a CNA make about $14/hr or continued working as a surg. tech. Last job offer I had for ST was starting at $18/hr. But I live in CT, and it is expensive to live here. Taxes are high, and I wouldn't be suprised if they start taxing up just to breathe.:uhoh21:

Does anyone know the pay rate for LPN's in the West Central Illinois Area?

I'm from WC Illinois, and I hear the starting pay rate at the hospital is 12-13. $1.50 diff. And weekend pay is around 17. Mostly though, in depts. like OB/L&D, ER, you're just a tech position/glorified aide that can instert catheters. Over in Hannibal, MO they supposedly pay their LPNs 10.75-PATHETIC. I make about that as an aide at the hospital.
LTC is about the same if not less. I haven't really heard too many great things about the pay around here. Definetely going to have to keep trekkin in school...
