LPN/LVN Additional Certifications

Nurses LPN/LVN

I know that you guys (LPN/LVN's) can now get a load of other certifications on top of your LPN license. I know that you can get your IV certifications and oxygen and what not, but what are some of the other possibilities for an LPN?

It makes me feel silly not knowing these things as a nurse with 3 years experience or more, but I guess it doesn't hurt to ask! I try to focus on the medication and patient care part

I was not aware that LPN/LVN's were able to get certifications in anything. Can an LPN become a oncology certified nurse? I had always thought you must have your RN first.

LPNs are employed at the Cancer Facilities in the province of Alberta. We handle carcinogenics.

I don't know about the US.

I sought out and took the Gerontology certification. I passed and now am IV and Gerontology certified. My employer did not acknowledge the Gerontology certification. We are all IV certified(the LPN's)-had to- to keep our jobs. Now that I got the GC-Gerontology cert...other LPN's are bustling to get it too. It isn't too hard-go for it!

Congratulations Hubby's Girl!

Where did you get your certification if I might ask?

You said your employer didn't acknowledge it, I wonder why? Seems like it would be a desirable certificate to get if you are in LTC.

I'm on a med/surg unit- and I found the cert on NFLPN's website. It's very do-able-things we already know. I was talking at work today about it not being acknowledged to my bosses' supervisor and to some co-workers. They have certs in something else, and so far have no "congrats" from mngmnt. I don't know why.

Thanks for answering. Maybe acknowledgement is withheld because they fear workers will want wage increases, or maybe its just bad management.

Glad you didn't let that stop you. Knowledge is power..........

I have a certificate in Phlebotomy, a certificate in Rehab, and a certificate in IV start & maintaining. Do I want to be an RN ? not really, I like being an LPN, I love the patient contact and I enjoy the extra time I have with my patients. I don't have to rush off to complete paper work or handle a crisis in management. Life is Good.

You are correct I feel the same. I was thinking about going back to school for my RN but I just pass my nclexpn, and I make 27.25 per patient for a home care service in St. Louis,Mo. Good luck and may God continue to Bless you as a Nurse!

Where did you go to get certified in Rehab? online courses or a college?

I would be interested to know about being Certified in Rehab, so far to the best of my knowledge it is only open to Rn with 2 years experience working rehab.

Hello,

I am located in California and will graduate in July of 2008:) One of the things I would like to do after I get my license is enter a wound care certification program. There was a program offered in this forum, I went there, and it mentioned that it was for RN's.

Does anyone know of a good program in the California area? I am located in central Cal. I don't mind taking online classes. Of course, like all students, I am not rich, but am willing to pay $$$ for the right experience.

Thanks in advance for your time.

There is Wound Care Certification, first requirement is working 2 years with wounds. The class they offer costs around $3,000. http://www.wcei.net/

I received IV certification from pharmerica is there a way that i can get this added onto my license? Also i was certified in wound care through my job can i get this on my license as well?

Reading some of the posts I think their might be some confusion as to having a certificate versus being certified. Perhaps someone could further clarify. I will try and look for information, but there is a difference.

While I have a business card provided by my employer which says blah blah specialist, that does not as yet mean I am certified. I am hoping to get together the money for certification which means I not only have been working in that field for 2 years, but that you pass what a nationally recognized test to become certified in that speciality.

Anyone with additional clarification just in case I am mistaken , please correct me.
