LPN jobs in NE Ohio for new grads -- do they even exist?

Nurses LPN/LVN

Published

Hi everyone, I have read all the employment threads but I am specifically looking for info on LPN jobs in NE Ohio for new grads.

I am sorry this is so long, I just wanted to get some advice.

The stress of my current job is really hurting my health. It's hard to explain, but where I work, they don't want the publicity of lay-offs, so they are creating an atmosphere of constructive dismissal for people who people who have been there for more than a few years, abusing people to try to make them quit (the women especially).

The abuse is hard to explain, and I won't try to do it here. Suffice it to say that there are people in the bathroom throwing up and having IBS from it, and people in their cars crying at lunch break -- grown men, mind you. They are making up false things on reviews, yelling at people with spit flying out of their mouths, etc. It's beyond description, but when they fire you, they give you a nice fat package so people try not to quit. That's also why no one gets a lawyer or goes to the media, as this place has more money than God (so they have the best lawyers) and they won't give you your package if you get a lawyer or go to the media (although I have heard through the grapevine that some are trying to sue). I am not exaggerating; this place is beyond belief or anything I have ever seen or even read about.

Anyway -- I have a master's degree in a non-medical field, and I was planning to go into PA school. However, I don't think I can hold out that long as I have all my pre-req's to do. So, I was thinking about LPN school.

I have always dreamed of becoming a nurse but I let people talk me out of it all my life due to low self-esteem. Also, financial and family hurdles held me back. I am different now and I WANT to do this!

I'm a single mom so I need something that will lead to a license fairly quickly, so I think LPN might be for me. I don't think I can spare the time and money for RN right now; plus to be honest I am awful at algebra and all the programs here require it. I was going to start learning it but I feel I can't stay at my current job long enough to master algebra right now.

So -- I have heard terrible horror stories about there being NO JOBS for new grad LPN's in NE Ohio. I want to know if this is true? ARE there any jobs? Is it hopeless job market-wise to become an LPN? Will my previous education and work experience matter at all (I have a feeling it won't)?

Any answers will be very much appreciated. Thank you all!

Hi :) The majority of places who will take LPN new grads will advertise so, and yes they exist. Honestly, I know of a few places that will take anyone that are too cheap to advertise lol. Your current employer sucks. Just wait til the karma train rolls in..........the guy or lady responsible for all the dishonesty will be admitted to the hospital.........and who should walk in but you. :)

Hi there...

Yes, the jobs do exist. That's why I'm in Florida right now...LOL

But seriously...the majority of jobs for new grads will be in LTCs, assisted living facilities, etc. Very few hospitals hire LPNs anymore. Best of luck to you and I hope you can get out of your current situation as quickly as possible.

Thank you! I appreciate your time and positive words! I love seniors so I think I would like LTC.

all hospitals in NE Ohio are phasing out LPN's. I work as an RN in Canton, Ohio and my hospital and neighboring hospitals are not hiring LPN's any longer. Nursing homes still hire LPN's but your wages will be less. A friend of mine is an LPN at a nursing home in the area and only makes $13/hr.

Wow! Thanks for the information. $13 an hour for an LPN ... that's terrible. :crying2:

But they pay more in Cleveland.

Don't believe that all hospitals are phasing out LPN's. That remark is from someone who does not have adaquate knowlege of how the LPN job market flucuates. With that said, University Hospitals were trying to phase many of them out last year and doing it in a way I did not find ethical. An example is moving to "zone" nursing which divides different zones on a floor and of course each zone requires an RN- leaving more RN's on the floor and lack of working the LPNs. But I expect the pendelum to swing back as it always has.

Summa still uses LPNs you just have to keep checking because the job market is tough.

Also you have to realize that in NE Ohio in the Cleveland to Canton area there are 5 nursing schools for RN's. So NE Ohio never suffers from a nursing shortage and can be picky when it comes to hiring nurses. Also hospitals that are magnet or are trying to obtain magnet status get more "points" for each BSN or higher degreed nurse that they have.

All in all there are jobs for LPN's in the hospitals but the timing right now is bad because of the economy. There are more jobs in LTC, and rehab at this time.

There's a nursing home in Strongsville that pays based on years of experience. I started at $23/hr, but due to a bad back at the time couldn't handle it and had to quit after 1 1/2 nights.

Hi all!

I worked at a 600 bed hospital in Toledo from 77-88 and they got rid of the LPN's. Went to another hospital in Toledo 700+ beds. I have worked there for 21 yrs. they are now getting rid of LPN's. I would not advise anyone to get their LPN at this time, if planning to work in the Toledo area! Thanks!

I live in NE Ohio also and will be grad. in July. I am headed to the Solon/Beachwood/Cleveland area. I want to wish you luck on your job adventures.
