LPN job offer, question re/salary$$$

:nurse:i was offered a position yesterday with starting wage of xxxx amount of dollars. i told the don i would think about it over the weekend, and get back to her on monday. well today reading the local paper i see this same facility advertising for a nurse and the starting wage is xxxx amount of dollars, a whole $1.00 more hourly than what i was offered. i really want the job, but why would they offer me $1.00 less starting wage than what they were putting in the paper? would it be tactful for me to bring this up before i tell the don i want the job? now i feel they were dishonest.

If you really want the job, i would simply call her and ask if there is any room for negotiation as far as the pay goes. If she says no, maybe tactfully say that you saw an ad in the paper for X amount per hour and wondered if it was for a different position that what they offered you. Typically most places will negotiate the pay though. Good luck, hope you get paid what you deserve!

I was offered $17.75 hourly to work at a local nursing home when their standard starting rate of pay is $18.50 hourly. The DON explained that the wage would be raised to $18.50 once I got my permanent license (at that time I only had a temporary nursing license).

only accept the salary you are willing to accept. many places (not just hospitals but any employer really) will "lowball" your offer. if you accept, fine for them. but then you will not have a leg to stand on if you find out later you can't live on the salary, or that others have been hired for more than you with the same or less experience. if you must have a certain salary then negotiate from that platform. if you don't you may find yourself unhappy down the road.
