LPN in GA

I would think long and hard before making a move to Georgia. I've been an LPN, here, for 20 years and believe me, the pay is not that great. Most facilities, and I'm speaking of LTC, base your pay on how many years you have been a nurse and the starting/base pay is anywhere from $13.00-$16.00 an hour. Also, the hospitals just aren't utilizing LPN's like they once did. Some LTC facilities may pay up to $20-$24 an hour, but that's rare and you work 12 hours every weekend, or PRN. Also, the benefits aren't that great either. In fact, after much consideration and praying, I'm getting out of LTC all together and going back to being a Correctional Nurse. Sure, the pay's not great, but the benefits out weigh the pay...atleast for me anyway. Good luck in whatever you decide to do. And if you do decided to move to this hot/humid state, just let me know. LOL

There, again, depends on how long you have been a nurse. It pays less than SOME LTC, but the work is soooooooooo much easier. At my age, with the benefits they have to offer and the work load...suits me to a T. For me, it's not even about the pay anymore. Guess that's why I was in LTC for so long, they pay better. Now, you can have the all day/night on your feet, bickering between the staff, 50 residents to be responsible for, family members, etc. Now, I just want to work til I can retire and have a good retirement, without killing myself in the process.

LOL...I've lived in GA all my life, and live in a small town. That does make a difference. There's not as many nursing opportunities where I live, but if you lived somewhere around the Atlanta area that would help, or south of Atlanta. I live in hickville, USA LOL..literally, but I was born and raised here. The summers are horrible and very humid. It can go weeks without any rain, in fact we have been in a drought for the past 5 years, even after all the rain we've had this year. The avg temp is in the mid 90's, for summer, with heat index of atleast 100 or greater. The winters aren't that bad, mild compared to the northern states. We rarely get snow, and when we do everything shuts down...even an inch. That's because we are not equipped to drive on it. In fact, I don't even think we've had "snow" since the blizzard of 1993, which was a first in this area. Anything else you want to know, just ask.
