LPN Home visit

If you mean doing skilled nursing visits in the community, it's vastly different of course. I personally found it more stressful. You spend a lot of time driving from client to client. Maybe they "forgot" and aren't there and you just drove there for nothing. There is no "salary", you get paid per visit. The pay is better than nursing homes if you get in enough visits. I liked it in spite of the stress. You get to see different things, get outside instead of being cooped up in the nursing home all day. I live in a rural area, gave it up due to the high cost of gas/car maintenance.

I do home care, continuous care or shift work. It is much better than working in a facility. The main advantage is that you are only working for one client in your eight hour or twelve hour shift. The pay is comparable to that of working in a nursing home, same pay for only one patient. The downside is that the family may be watching every move and they can be a pain. Sometimes there are recording devices in the home that can make you feel weird. Not all families are pains though, some are nice and very helpful. Some nurses get a case that is perfect in all respects, and they stay with this patient for years. I recommend this type of work for anyone who is burnt out from their current job. It allows you to lower your stress level while staying in nursing.

It depends whether you are doing skilled nursing visits for several pts a day or shift work where you stay with one client. I work in home health and LOVE it! I hope i never have to go back to a facility!! There are alot of places that pay a salary and NOT per visit. I get an hourly salary and reimbersment for gas. I see an average of 6-7 pts a day and may drive anywhere from 20-60 miles a day depending on the day. I find it A LOT less stressful than facility work. I get to use a lot more skills....everything from wound care, trachs, nephro tubes, caths, phlebotomy, assessments, testing for pt/inr in the homes, cardiac care....you name it and we do it!! Every day is different and i get to meet some great people!! Of course there are bad days too, but even a bad day where i am now is NOTHING compared to a bad day i had at the nursing home!!
