Congratulations on getting your license

What you want right now is experience, and LTC or SNF is a good way to get it. Those jobs are plentiful for LPN's. After about a year, it will be easier to get jobs in other areas.

LTC is the best paying, but some nurses want a different venue. Its interesting but true, the medical community is smaller than you think. Do your job well and you will have good references to open other doorways.

Good luck!!!!

Hi onmywayok and congrats on receiving your license!!! (Feels great dosen't it?) Like you I am a new grad lpn and I plan on starting off in LTC although I am a little frightened.( I hear its unbearable! Yikes!) I really enjoyed my LTC rotation in school and I just figured Id give it a try and make up my own mind about it. I would recommend that you do the same. We might end up loving it and get great experience. Good luck to you on whatever you choose

I do believe that LTC would probably not be a bad start (depending on the nursing home). Their activities are more routine, from what I hear, and you can master how to administer meds, do treatments, charge nurse duty and managing time with a large number of patients. And, it may be that the jobs for nursing homes are more plentiful. Just be sure to watch the dynamics, because from what I read here, some LTC facilities are nightmares to work for.
