I was fired. Now what?

I work at a small nursing home( less than 55 residents) for a little over 2 yrs. On May the 19th a new nurse started working. She's an RN with 30 yrs experience. She was suppose to just do weekend coverage. She orientated with me for 5 days. When the new schedule came out I noticed she was scheduled the same days I was. This woman is very good friends with the administrator. When I got off duty I called the DON and asked why the schedule looked that way and she informed me that she was going to let me go because she didn't think a nursing home was my "forte". I was in shock. Never heard anything from her that there was a problem with my work or anything. I believe I was discriminated against just so somebodys friend could have a job. Meanwhile the RN has now refused to work my schedule when she found out I had been let go. Where do I go from here?

Sorry you got screwed.

Good luck in the job hunt. Like Sue said, you got screwed. Sorry about that, it always chaps me when something like that happens.

That is about the coldest thing that I have heard in a while. She had you to train a person to replace you. That is so wrong but what goes around comes around. Move on and keep your head up. How inconsiderate and unprofessional.

That makes me so mad. I'm so sorry this happened to you. Their dirty little plan has pretty much back-fired since the other RN will not work your hours. Good riddance to them!

You are not the first person to train their replacement. Sorry you got screwed. You will have to find a new job. Hopefully you won't get screwed there too. And bravo to the RN for not working your hours.

Yeah, I have to say I'm impressed with your "replacement."

These are the times when I hope Karma really exists. Hold your head up knowing it wasn't you ..... but someone that has no reservations about screwing someone else to help their own. Sounds like an administrator you don't want to work for.

Straight to the nearest employment division office to file for unemployment benefits.

Then, ask your former colleagues for professional references.

If you want to fight for this job, your next stop would be a qualified attorney who specializes in employment law. Me, I would simply chalk this one up to experience and move on; who wants to work for a facility that treats people that way?

Whatever you do, I wish you the best. And don't let the jerk-wads of the world get you down!
