How much do you make? Feeling under paid :(

Nurses LPN/LVN

I was curious to know what type of nursing you all do and what it pays in your area? I've been looking at other positions (home health, hospitals, and doctors offices) but I don't know what fair pay is. Several of the home health agencies by me pay $15/hr with no benefits!

I was offered a base pay of $19.45 upon acceptance. I work night shift so I get paid an extra $1.80 for shift diff. My work place also offers $0.83 for being IV Cert. So I make about $22/hr. By union it goes up every 3-6 months. I live in So Cal.

Where did you go to school? i will be starting at Orlando Tech Jan. 2014 and reading this post makes me nervous about he pay scale here in Orlando.. Congrats for your hospital gig!! But how did you get in a hospital?

I live in the Orlando area. I've been an LPN for 10 months. I work at an area hospital and I make approximately $19 incl differential. I am full time and receive benefits. I also work agency 1 day per week.

WOW, and I thought I was underpaid....live in Texas, make $20/hr as PCC in home health, plus work PRN at LTC facility making about $20/hr, I do have 12 years experience though, no hospital experience at all, it is shocking to see some of these pay rates.

I have been an LPN for 2 1/2 years. The going rate for new grads in Utah is around $14/hour DOE. I snagged a job 2 months after passing NCLEX at $16/hour at an ALF where I had worked off and on as a CNA for 7 years. No benefits, but hours were flexible and I had a baby 5 days after I was hired so it worked perfectly for me. I just moved to North Dakota where they are in desperate need of nurses, both LPNs and RNs and I have seen starting wages for LPNs $16/hour DOE at hospitals, clinics, and SNFs.

It all depends on your experience and how long you have been an LPN. I have been an LPN for 16 yrs but recently worked 8 years for Managed Care (Health Insurance Company) at which I was doing Utilization Reveiw and then I applied for position at a hospital doing UR and they took all my years of experience as an LPN into consideration and offered me $12,000 per year more. So I don't know if there is a "fair" salary.. I thought my previous pay of $26.26/hr was great and now I am on cloud nine. So just go for what you want and don't leave your current job if it isn't, but sometimes, you have to consider more than just pay. In my case, I came out on top both ways, because I wanted to get out of working for insurance company, I was totally ready.

Good luck with your job hunt.

I work PDN in the Kissimmee area. It's 16.50/hr, but I am guaranteed OT. I could also do the group/foster homes at 20/hr, but I rarely select that option. I'd rather bide my time and keep work easy as I work on my RN.

Confidence and persistence. I never looked online for a job or the paper I googled different nursing homes and places I knew hired lpns, i made a ton of copies of my cover letter and resume and everyday made it a point to visit 2-3 of those places and do applications. The place I got hired at never even advertised the open position. Even tho you have no experience be confident in the interview and make sure you voice your strengths. The hiring DON was so enthused about my excitement she said she would rather take the risk on hiring me then on someone with 15yrs experience and maybe bad habits. She mentioned how new grads are so fresh new skills and eager to learn.
