Home care salary for LPN's

Interested in making the switch to homecare from LTC. Anybody working homecare full-time and making decent money? I mean the cases where you work 8 hour shifts or overnight, not the per visit jobs.

I recently moved from inpatient psych nursing to home health full time and make $1/hr more. Also get mileage and extra pay for > 7 visits/day, weekends or call visits. I'm on call 5 days/month and usually don't get called in ... but get paide per diem night rate if I do. Also on call one weekend every two months so not too bad. The hours are mostly great... days are rarely 8 hours but there are some 100 mile days that make me rethink what I'm doing.

I was just offered a home case for 9 hours on Saturdays and Sundays making $25 an hour. Decent side money for me. If I were the weekday nurse, I would be making over $1000 a week. For me, that is nothing to sneeze at.

Today I was offered the part-time pay rate of $25 per hour at a small home health agency. The full-time pay rates offered were significantly less.

Im jealous of you guys and feel like Im being robbed....lol. I make $16.50 an hour in peds home care. The pay rates at my agency go up to around 21 though, depending on the case acuity and my cases tend to be very stable. Im going back to get my RN in January, but I would still like to find a better paying job so I can work less during school and make about the same as I make now.

In Texas, where I am as pedi LVN HH, I get 16.50 an hour. Compared to the hospital pay which is 11 an hour, I am making good money. Also time and half over 40, and holiday pay. No PTO, sick time, or any extras like that. Also, if your kid goes in the hospital, you have no job until they get out. That is something to think about. Good luck in what ever you decide!

sounds exactly like my gig! You are right tho, compared to hospital rates, we are doing very well. I could make a little more in a facility but it wouldnt be worth all u have to do and put up with. Taking care of 30 patients by myself for a couple of extra bucks an hour just doesnt appeal to me.;)

Yes, I am going to accept the home health gig as a part-time, second job. Also, it will be a good backup option if my current nursing home job decides to ride my back and get rid of me. After all, my nurse manager at my current place of employment wrote me up for petty stuff that had absolutely nothing to do with patient care. In addition, it was a final written warning before they terminate me.
