Hi! I just joined today!!!!

Hi to everyone!
I'am just returning back to school, after many years and just finished CNA classes. Originally I wanted to start school for LPN classes, but researching the opportunities in my community there doesn't seem to be a high demand for LPN'S. Well except in the retirement homes and doctor offices... At the age of 48 I really do not want to go back to school for the committment of a RN. Can someone tell me their experiences as far as LPN's in the workforce and if their positions are still in demand in hospitals, or do they go by another name like medical tech, etc... I would appreciate any direction or opinion anyone has.

Hi and welcome to the site

Although not working in the US I feel reading some posts depending on where you live depends on what is happening with LPN's but most appear to be moving out of hospitals. Medical techs I think are totally different

Will move to the LPN forum since you're specifically addressing LPNs.

LPNs rule LTC here in Tampa Bay enjoying a job opportunities and fairly decent money. LPN jobs in hospitals, especially for new grads are few and far between, and those that do get jobs in hospitals don't make near the money they do in nursing homes.

Good luck to you. Welcome to Allnurses!

The demand in NC is hear for LPN's. Some areas of the state LPN work in hospitals. But in my area, the only jobs are in agency, LTC, doctors offices. If you can get into a RN program without having to wait several years, then go for that. But if you like working in Dr. offices and with the elderly, then get your LPN.

welcome to allnurses.com and good luck with everything you do! Congrats on becoming a CNA, first of all. It is true that LPN's are not really in a huge demand in hospitals. But then again, it depends where you work. Here in miami, a majority of the hospitals don't hire LPN's. I'm pretty sure that some hospitals hire LPN's in certain area of the hospitals, but you will have to check with you're hospital policy. The only places that hire LPN's are in nursing homes and LTC facilities. hope this helps.. btw, I'm taking a course to become an LPN.
