i was recently told that my niece got into an rn program. I am having a hard time believing that an rn program would accept her given what type of person she turned out to be. i know this may come out sounding like im jealous but....im truly not..im happy for anyone who gets an opportunity to better themselves whether its a cna, lpn, rn, pa, md..whatever....but here it is. my neice has been a true disappointment to everyone...she doesnt have the mentality of an adult....her mentalitly is that of a teenager...probably about the age of 16 or 17 maybe. shes a chronic liar, she had a baby who she left when it was born and now my sister is raising her baby....thank god for her. she legally adopted the baby b/c my neice was on drugs and basically homeless...she abused all of her assets and the entire family. she has a long history of theft, lies, drugs, manipulation including some jail time here and there. she doesnt work, cant hold a job. she basically hops from friend to friend for a place to stay..usually its different men. when i went thru the lpn program it was brutal...and strict. the rn program i would think from what ive read and researched about it is just as strict if not more so. ex...a requirement is that all rn students must have health insurance...now why is that a requirement???/ have you ever heard of that? 95% of my town is out of a job and thus no insurance. anyways....my neice disappears for months and months at a time. and none of us know who shes with or where shes at or what shes into. if she did indeed somehow manage to get into such a wonderful program it makes me worry that if she makes it through it....who will suffer from her actions? it will go beyond just family....i think she'd be a dangerous nurse...i can already see her stealing pills especially narcs for herself and her friends. a nurse in my mind should be one of the most reliable honest people around....pts depend on us for care, meds, and answers. is there some kind of hidden rule that exists in any nursing program that says they have to take in applicants like her?/??? stil....i dont think that she has even done any of the required pre reqs....before applying to the rn program it is required to have chemistry and a few other things done and passed. ....this just really concerns me. i hope and think its one of her fabrications. the rn program isnt even announcing its new students til march 2010.i know people can change but....my neice has never changed for the better...shes only gotten worse over the years. am i crazy or does this sound like a hoax to any of you???? If she had shown any improvement that lasted for more than 2 days i would find it easy to be happy for her and offer any help i could to her.....but ....i know nurses personally who come from a similar background of stealing and lies and unreliableness....they cant find or hold jobs, theyve stolen narcs before, they've been no call no shows or been fired from numerous jobs.....how can ppl like this even keep a license???? im confused.
