Finding a job on probation

Nurses LPN/LVN

Published

It has been over a month and I haven't had any call backs for any LVN jobs that I've applied for online. I'm having zero luck at finding a job with an LVN license on probation. Has anybody with a probationary license had any success?

Welcome to Allnurses.com!

I see you're in Los Angeles, which has tens of thousands of LVNs with clear, unencumbered licenses. Unfortunately, since you are in an employer's market, candidates with clear licenses will be considered first.

To make yourself marketable, I'd attain a certification in geriatrics, wound care, or something else. Certification will make you stand out positively. Otherwise, it might be a year or longer before you get hired. Good luck to you.

That actually sounds like a great idea, Thank you! I was thinking of getting certification for wound care about a week ago. I will follow your advice and go along with it and see how job searching goes. =) Do you have any programs for Wound care that you wouldn't mind recommending?

I know out here in Las Vegas anyone who is on probation isn't even considered for most positions. Most places want clear and free licenses. Nurses who have issues with their licenses are a liability and a magnet for facility blame if anything were to ever happen with a patient. If it was for something small like forgetting to renew, (got a friend who got nailed for that) most places will at least ask you what happened, but most won't hire you when there is a pool of applicants who are free and clear ;(

Good luck to you.
