DSD course in CA

Nurses LPN/LVN

Does anyone know of any online or in class Director of Staff Development (DSD) approved courses by California Board of Registered Nursing. Also has anyone had any success getting a DSD job from completing the course online? Thank you!

There used to be one offered by an individual that used to offer prep for the Excelsior CPNE as well as NCLEX prep if I recall correctly. Haven't seen anything on this lately. Don't know if still in business. Classes were offered in southern CA.

Just did a quick internet search. The course mentioned above can be found at nurseeducate dot com. This is the school run by an individual that got in a big legal battle with Excelsior many years ago. Cost for the course looked to be $495. There were also links to other providers.

Are they legit, I am so worried about taking a class and just waiting my money. I know have seen a few online but not use which to pick prices range form $99- $750. Here are the ones I found

Director of Staff Development Course Description - $99

DSD - $445

http://www.stjudenursingschool.com/dsd.php- $499

http://www.qchf.org/QCHFHome/Schedule/DSD24HourEducationTraining.aspx- $699

Another link for the one I mentioned is : newhavenuniv dot edu. I do not recommend this provider. Go to the newhaven site and look at their links for nursing programs. This individual has always presented as being somewhat of a huckster. That qchf one looks too expensive. Why pay $1400 for something that can be had for $99? If all you want is the certificate so you can apply with the state, I guess I would go with the cheapest first one. It is too bad that legitimate nursing schools do not offer this as a continuing education option.

That is true and none of the site offer in class training it's all online. And how do we apply for this with the state? According to the state application we need "Proof of 24-hour BRN approved DSD class or transcript of college courses related to education programs in nursing".

Looked like joshuatree school provided their CA state provider number. I imagine you can research the CABRN site for a list of legit providers.

Been trying but have had no luck, so guess come Monday I will call them and ask to make sure! Thanks!

Looked on the BRN website, CEP section. No list of CEP, but there is a statement there that all CEP must put a statement in their advertising that provides the CA BRN CEP provider number, (which I suppose could be verified with the Board). So, look for that statement in the ads for providers of the DSD course. From what I gathered, that would be all the authenticity you would need. Course certificate from the CEP to accompany application for DSD certification. HTH

I think you can apply as DSD even you don't have certificate right? some LTC facilities were willing to trained the best applicant right? Coz I'm planning to apply as DSD too. I have a year of experience working as a Lead Clinical Nurse LVN in a medical center here in our area. Do you think I can apply as DSD? I supervise MAs and LVNs.
