Dental/Oral Surgery clinics

In our program, we have instructors telling us we can work in dental clinics. Is this true? I mean are there any of you out there that work in a dental office? I thought that was what Dental Asst's. and Dental Hygenists were for. It's a point of interest so I thought I'd ask. They were speaking specifically about oral surgeons offices and the like.
