Curious, Why did you decide to become an RPN/LPN?

I really wanted to go back to school (i never really did much education past high school when i was younger) but i always struggled with WHAT i wanted to go back for.

For many years I had people tell me i should become a nurse and i was very hesitant about pursuing it as an education and career path.

I researched different options and different careers i would be interested in but i kept coming back to nursing. i have quite a few friends who are nurses so i spoke with them about what they liked and disliked about their jobs and in the end i decided it was the right path for me to follow.

I'm very excited, and nervous, to start my RPN program in September.

I have two small children and i want to set a good example for them... so i better make sure i keep my grades up!! lol

My program itself was 3 academic semesters plus 2 more semester of prereqs= 5 total semesters

There are no "pre-reqs" for the practical nursing programme. You must have completed Grade 12 and meet the training colleges requirements. Usually Grade 12 English, Biology, Chemistry and some level of math courses. It's basically the same entrance requirements as the local universities for the BScN. The catalogues say minimum of 65% in the grade 12 coursework, but from what I've seen lately nothing under 80% is getting people in.

Yes, its a diploma program. We've been told it is the old diploma RN program but with more information and condensed time frame, its a slightly insane workload.

I was a CNA with two small children (with one in the oven). My mom was a CNA-LPN-RN. she inspired me to keep going for the goal, do whatbi love and also have financial stability

I have two small children, 4 and 9 months. I want to be a nurse and was able to finish all of my RN prerequisites but can't commit to two years of not working. So I'm starting out as an LPN to get a feel of the field and work my way up. I got accepted in the Fall program and start in August!

I been a CNA on and off since 2004. I have one child and I am not getting any younger. Hopefully I start LVN school July 1st. I heard that they are at capacity though so I might have to wait until October. I passed my entrance exam, now I just need to start. I wanted to be a nurse because I enjoy helping people, it makes me feel good to know that I can make a positive difference in someones life.

My ultimate goal is to work at a VA hospital so I can help my fellow veterans. I used to be in the Air Force as Security Forces (equivalent to military police) and I just dont see myself being a police officer not to mention the danger in it all. So nursing is what I decided to do. I cant wait to start school and achieve my goals!!
