confused

If you want to go into healthcare admin, by all means, go for it. With an aging population, many facilities will need healthcare administrators. So, why not get the degree you want, and if you desire your RN later, you can get it then. Many facilities want actual degrees in healthcare admin, not just to work your way up into the position. After you get a masters, you can go for your BSN, not an ADN. And a MSN after that.

ive been a lpn for 2yrs now would have been five but i was sooo scared to take my boards that i waited 3yrs to take it. but i passed on my first try (thank God lol) but i have started going to school for healthcare administration i will have my associates in aug 2010.
everyone keeps asking why i chose not to go for my rn which is what i wanted to do before going for my lpn. and i really dont have a reason besides i would have to take three yrs to complete the rn because of all the prereq. that i would have to complete then the actual nursing program. people keep saying if i go for my rn i could work up to the position that i want.
i know two lpn's one is a DON (has 15+ yrs of experience) and the other is a ADON (with 4 yrs experience) here in richmond, va so i know i could but i want to eventually have my master's in healthcare adminstration/ law and would have to do this anyway so i figure why not keep working as a lpn for the next 6yrs and get the degree i want i love nursing so it's not like i'd be suffering the whole time.
anyone have thoughts on what i should do. i mean i think im going about this the right way but do any of you think the rn would be better in the long run?

You know an LPN that is a DON and ADON?? Wow, I thought you had to be an RN to hold those positions.

Not necessarily...LTC does have a more upward ladder for LPNs than hospitals.

Depends where your heart is. If you are more interested in administration, then, go for it. I don't know which hierarchy has more advantages, so, I can't say, but do what your heart desires!
