Caregivers running the show

Nurses LPN/LVN

Help! I have a caregiver who is verbally abusing the residents. She talks down to them, refuses to care for them or bring them food unless they say please, and provokes them. I have talked to her but then she singled in on me and even called me a ***** in front of other residents and families. I have been to the administration about this but was told that I have a personality conflict and need conflict resolution training! Today she refused to give a resident food and I told her to bring it. She dropped the plate in front of the resident and left the unit. She didn't come back for 45 min (after already having lunch break). Other caregivers have also gone to the administration but no action has been taken.

This caregiver's behavior is unprofessional, and could be considered abuse. It's clear you've tried to address it with the individual, as well as going to your administration. I would document behaviors you observe, and present them to your administration again. Inform them that if they do not want to handle it, that perhaps you should go to your ombudsman, or the state.

Wow it will never stop amazing me that people like this are working in health care. It is obvious she is not happy working there and hates her job, so why even be there. Find another job and then they as well as co workers and residents can also have happier lives.

I know this one nurse, who beats her clients ...and laughs

And you should call the police or you're just as guilty.

Call the state. Verbal abuse is abuse.
