Can He Still be a Nurse And

Okay, well I have a friend that was 2 semesters behind me in Nursing School. Lately he's been kinda down, and I asked him, why so down you're about to be done with school! Well he told me he was worried that with his past criminal history, he wasn't going to be able to work in a Nursing Home which is what he really wants to do. Apparently he has a misdemeanor criminal coversion charge which how he explained it to me, it's quite theft, and isn't quite shoplifing, I guess it's the lowest charge for taking stuff that isn't yours that you can get.... anyways it's about 2 years old now, and they plan to work in Indiana. Well what do you guys think? I told him that I didn't have the answer but that I'd try to find out. Thanks for any help you could give.

I also had a pettie misdemeandor on my record all I had to do was send court documents showing that the case was taken care of and close. I also had to send in good character references from friends, schools, jobs, etc. As long as your friends charges were'nt recent and he went to court and took care of the matter and the case is closed he should be able to take the examine.

Oh he can take the EXAM, he's just worried about AFTER he passes it and say he goes to find a job... will the nursing home discriminate on him because he has a misdemeanor charge on his record.

Probably, but then virtually any legitimate business would have a problem hiring someone with a charge of theft. Even more so a Nursing home because of the vulnerability of the elderly that would be in his care.

If he is able to take the exam, then he should worry about finding a job after the fact. I know it must be a frightening feeling but, hey he might be able to find something but can't knock it until he tries it.
