Any wellness screener nurses?

Nurses LPN/LVN

Published

Hi, I've been an LPN since '08, but haven't worked much to be a stay at home mom. I've worked here & there in clinic settings, but am currently not working again to be home with my kids. My husband and I don't really have much childcare help, so it's just me to watch our children. However, I do keep my LPN license & CPR card active & am able to work.

Anyway, I've been considering taking a class to be a wellness screener. It's just a one day siminar to teach nurses, phlebotomists, & medical assistants how to use a cholesterol check machine, finger sticks, and how to teach people to be aware of high BP, high cholesterol etc. After the class is over, you get a wellness screener certification. Even though I'm already an LPN & can do all of this, I thought getting the certification might help me land a job, as I haven't worked much. As a wellness screener I could then do wellness screenings for companies for their employees. I thought the hours would be good for me as a stay at home mom.

I was just wondering if there are any other LPN's who have worked in this line of work? If so what was it like? Did you get many hours? Thanks!

I did it temporarily but I wasn't certified as my temp agency trained us on the machines. I worked about 15 hrs a week & the work or need wasn't consistent. I did enjoy it though.

Hi 1pinknurse. Thanks for your reply. Did you do employee health screenings? Were you able to set your own hours?

Yes, they were called Wellness Screenings. Because the hours were minimal, I worked whatever hours they gave me.

I've never heard of it- but it sounds interesting.

I have done this through a company this year and I did not have a certification. I worked as the heath educator at the screenings going over the patients results. I worked maybe twice a month 4-5 hrs each day. We traveled to worksites and conducted health screenings.
